Had a great ride again today! A deer ran out on our trail today! He stopped and watched it, but that was it. ;-) It ran to the side of us, not directly in front, but it was a good test for us.
The farrier came today, and I had him tied, grooming him while we waited for the farrier to come. My son didn't know what I was doing, so he shot off his shut gun just a few feet away. I jumped, but Mason just stood there! It didn't affect him at all, and it was loud. I gotta say...I love this guy!!

Very important to trust your horse. I always say "I love my horse" and it's true I fall in love a little more every time I ride him.

So this afternoon we went out even further. in fact, I had to kind of think about where we were so I got back home! LOL!! We encountered another deer, and he didn't mind. When we got back by the buildings, we took a path that took us to the top of a hill. From there we could see some neighbors and they were flying a big white kite! He stopped and looked, but that was that. ;-)

I haven't done a kite before! I love these early spring rides glad you're enjoying them. I am banned from riding at least one more week. UGH will be a spa day tomorrow.

Oh Denise! that's not fun. But it will be worth it to have whatever it is straighten out.
I don't think I've encountered a kite before either! So far we've had bunnies, lots and lots of birds, deer, gun fire, and a kite. Oh...lots of ground moving equipment in the distance, and lots of farm machinery to walk by. We've also ridden on the side of the road with cars flying past us.
I think trail riding is quickly becoming my favorite riding discipline. It just might be trumping Western Pleasure. ;-) Of course, we lope and jog on the trail, too.
Also need to add: I did not anticipate how much I would enjoy going out alone. ;-)

I am so glad you are enjoying your new horse! I haven't had much chance to ride lately, the doctor doesn't want me to ride until I get stronger, tried this weekend but by the time I tacked up Marie I was just too tired. So I worked her on the ground instead, she seems to be doing much better around the cattle, still jumpy but no panic.

So...here is a little recap of today's ride : It was just starting to sprinkle as I tacked up. It looked like it wasn't going to actually rain...just sprinkle a bit. I got him all ready, and we headed out. He was fidgety, and Mishcka was yelling at him. He made a half hearted attempt to answer a couple of times, and I got after him, and he stopped. We went out by a really pretty woods, along the edge of a corn field. He just wasn't himself, and the rain picked up a bit, along with the wind. I decided he might be worked up because of the weather. I could see my house on the other side of the neighbor's corn field, but the neighbor doesn't keep the fence up, so I hopped off to make sure there wasn't some barbed wire on the ground where I wanted to cross and go to my house. Well!!! I hopped off....and.... HE RAN AWAY!!! LOL!!! I'm sorry. I just thought it was hilarious. I had to walk a ways to get to him...he went back to Mischka. That part I found NO humor in. I got on him and we WORKED on the field road. We jogged, fully collected back and forth, back and forth. To mischka, and away from Mischka. He was sooooo calm! By this time, the rain and wind had blown over and the sun was out. I'm not sure just exactly what his deal was, but I'm realizing this horse is NOT boring. He looked so ashamed of himself when I got to him. He knew he was in trouble.

Last ride Boomer was a turkey too, jiggy etc.. so when we got home and he THOUGHT it should be dinner time I left him standing tied with saddle on to the fence at the corral. I don't want him to think running home gets him anything but a boring time, you know?

My trainer, ( previous owner of mason), is coming up tomorrow to give me another lesson. I just love that they want to help me with him. She's also going to ride Mischka for DD. She hasn't been ridden in two years, and DD is nervous about that first ride. ;-) We got Mischka from the trainer, too, and she broke her out. I'm looking forward to it!!

We had to postpone due to weather, but the trainer has come up twice this week. It's been a blast. She is helping me so much with Mason. I've been letting him get away with things, and didnt even realize it. She is a very affectionate horse owner...but they tow the line! Mason stands at attention when she's around. LOL.
We've been loping and loping. It's getting better and better. He can lope in place! I am getting more used to how to lope him...how he feels, and he's getting slower and slower for me. It doesn't even feel like we are moving sometimes...but is so smooth. That has been one of my biggest goals....to get that lope down.
It's kind of funny, though, he will always give me at least one crow hop on take off...no one else...just me. I'm always grateful he does this when the trainer is here. She has taught me how to handle it.

OH! Last night was the first ride on MIschka. We were all impressed! I didn't ride her, but the trainer, DD and trainers son did. She was a peach. She was a bit off...so they didn't do a ton, but she was a doll.

I love a really slow canter, Buddy as big as he is can canter so slow you'd swear he was rocking on rails. Of course anything SLOW he has down well. lol
Ohio and back, broke down for 3.5 hour W of St. Louis, 4 hours from home! ugh broke a belt and had to wait for the engine to cool down enough to get in there and fix it. Also had one twist up. Got home at 3:30am this morn. I drove the motor home all the way, at 30 feet long the wind and truckers catch that square box every 2 min and was nerve wracking. It is extremely nice inside though.

Oh wow, Denise! That sounds like quite a trip! We routinely do 12 hour trips, but I don't drive in the really high traffic areas.
So...I rode yesterday, and he was HORRIBLE!!
Rode tonight, and he was a baby doll. I don't get it. I really don't. I do know that if he wants to be, he can be herd bound. Other times, he doesn't care about the herd. It's the weirdest thing. I'm expecting a call from the trainer. I suppose we will just keep plugging away....

Buddy can be a turkey sometimes too but if I get after him he stops. He knows momma can make it an unpleasant ride of hard work if he's a pain.
Yeah I decided to go to the optometrist today for an exam and fitting for glasses for driving. It sucks when you can't see at night. The windshield wipers sucked, the wind was awful and I couldn't see too far ahead to know where the road was turning. Daylight and on roads I know are fine but I don't want trouble when I leave for Wy.
