HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!
Gotta love the back up approach to resistance. Buddy has only done it once. After spending HOURS going up and down the same foothills he finally decided he didn't like that game.

High of 54 yesterday (went to the big city) High of 30 today with a slight to moderate breeze. BRRR and Yes I rode anyway! LOL Wasn't bad going out but when we turned towards home the breeze was blowing into our face and it was a bit uncomfortable. Only rode an hour because it was so dang cold even with all the winter stuff on. Whatever I did to my knee isn't affected by riding but mounting was a little more difficult then expected because the log I use isn't flat on bottom or top so it always rocks a bit. Not bad with two good knees but a bit shaky when you're trying not to put all the weight on the right leg.
I don't know that we actually worked on a darn thing, at least not horse-wise. I worked on walk/trot and canter to see if it was going to be okay physically. No problem there, I was worried about the long days in August on horse back with a knee that wasn't 100% so I'm breathing easier.

Finally got to ride today! Nothing much, just the dirt road end to end. Considering I haven't ridden Whitey since Sept it went pretty well. I know she really wanted to run but did the walk without too much fuss. She walks a lot faster than Winnie. She jumped coming back past the Mastiff next door, like she doesn't see and hear her all day, every day. DH had a perfect ride on Winnie of course. It was his first since his hip replacement, no pain.

Brrr it's too dang cold here to even LOOK at the horses! Glad your ride was uneventful for the most part and Winnie was a good girl for DH.

GR, you rode for an hour and practiced walk/jog/trot to see if it hurt your knee, so I'd say you worked quite a bit horse-wise HS, glad you were able to go for a ride! Considering you haven't ridden Whitey since Sept., I think you both did really well! I'm glad that DH's hip had no pain!

54 today and not too breezy. Tomorrow is supposed to be nicer but next week we've got another cold front moving in. Of course next day off isn't till Tues.

Beautiful day for a ride! Just a little breeze and upper 60's. Wore a lightweight fleece jacket in the barn while tacking up but glad I took it off before we left the barn-it would have been too warm out in the sunshine for more than my short sleeved t-shirt. Had a good ride until right at the end. They were starting the noon feeding again so he thought he needed to get back to his pen. I was ok with that until a dog ran out at us from the right side of the trail & Risty did a BIG spook. I thought for a minute he was either going to slide sideways down the hill or I was going to come off. Fortunately, neither happened. I yelled a couple of times at the dog to "get back" and threw in a da*# dog comment. After that Risty didn't want anything to do with that part of the trail again. Same place I had trouble a week ago. We were riding by ourselves both times. Went back to the barn & found someone else who was willing to go out for a little more riding. Risty was fine on the trail then and the dog had left the area. So at least we ended on a good note.

Had 2 days of good weather and riding. Rode trails Saturday, beautiful scenes and uneventful ride.
Today was the same, but arena riding. Only problem was someone left the arena gate open and the little girl riding with us didn't stop the horse until after it cantered out of the pen. I was outside the arena talking with the mom and didn't see the gate get left open until it was too late. I saw it as she was 50 feet from it and tried to get there in time. Luckily it was open just enough to clear both of her legs, but it was too close for me. I've been in those wrecks, it hurts! She seemed a little startled, but I think she's okay. We're going to check gates extra hard going forward.

We had an arena that opened off the barn door and they'd put a wood pole across the barn door. My shetland could just go under the bar and when my BFF would ride with me I made him ride the shetland and I rode my POA. The shetland always knocked him off. He hated that pony!LOL

Sounds like a good ride, Mary! I'm sure that was scary when the horse cantered through the open gate. One of those times when everything seems to move in slow motion, like a movie!
Lol about the Shetland, GR. Friends of ours had a Shetland who would like to roll when someone was on his back.
