Asking for everyone to keep Marie & Bear in their prayers, both came up missing from the pasture this evening. Denise said he had been driving the cattle pasture in his 4 wheel for the last couple of hours & hasn’t seen either of them. I will be there at first light to start looking. They are in almost 100 acres with lots of ravines, creeks & trails; Denise keeps the fence up good so hopefully they are just hiding. Since both are missing, they must be together; it’s unlikely they would have been trailered off together since Bear doesn’t load or trailer well & if Marie was trailered off, Bear would be back at the gate trying to get back with the horses. My main worry is that 1 or both went through a fence. That is the reason I didn’t put them out last year, but last year Denise had 80 cow/calf pairs & 2 bulls; this year he only has 40/1 bull so I thought there would be plenty of get away room. This confirms it, when I find Marie she will be going to be boarded at a real horse stable while I find her another home; someplace with no cattle.

I hope they are just playing naughty horsie and hiding. It is so hard to look everywhere by yourself since they can be on the move.

The power of the word come! I yelled “Bear! Marie! Come here!” and they both came running. Full of burrs, but no cuts; Marie had little bumps over her face, either fly bites or hives, they didn’t seem to bother her so I just covered them up with Swat. She is decompressing in her stall; luckily I had stripped it when I put them out so a new bale of shavings in her poo place & a new bale in her sleep place & she is good to go. I will just keep her in the stall/paddock for now. When I told Denise about them coming he told me he didn’t think to yell for them, but if he had the cows would have come running also anyway. Yea, all our livestock come running when we yell come; even the chickens! The cows usually only come running when Denise yells at them & I told him that I doubted the horses would come to him. When they come to me they get a treat, groomed & loved on (even his horses come running when I call!). Now to find Marie a home with no cattle; hopefully either a show home for a youth or a trail home somewhere.

Yay!! Great news!! I'm glad the bumps on Marie's face don't seem to be bothering her. Are they small bumps, like a rash? I once had Fanny at a barn that had a horrible case of burrs. They were EVERYWHERE!! It would take me at least half an hour to comb out Fanny's thick mane and tail every day. She started to get a "rash" between her back legs (small bumps en masse on the inside of the length of both hind legs) and the barn owner said it was probably sweet itch, but it wasn't. It was a reaction to the prickles of the burrs in her tail! Once I moved her and she was away from the burrs, the 'rash' quickly cleared up. She had weepy eyes from the burr prickles floating around when I'd brush out her forelock, too. Haven't had an issue with either since then

With all the rain Denise has mowed the pastures several times; he swears there are no burrs. hehehe. I asked him where are the horses getting them in their manes/tails then?
