A year and half ago we were supposed to go to my cousins wedding in TX but Buddy came down with a mysterious swelling on his jaw/cheek bone. It was a circle of swelling that didn't appear to cause any discomfort and the vet had no idea what it was or caused from. We did a teeth floating but she said it wasn't bad enough to have caused swelling. We also did a sheath cleaning while he was under. It went away on it's own about 5-6 days later but by then we'd cancelled our trip because she said if it got worse we'd have to transport him to some city where they have a deeper tissue x-ray machine.
Well it's back today. It's only 1/2 as bad as it was last time doesn't appear to cause any discomfort. BUT it's there. Anyone ever hear of such a swelling? I'm thinking it's gotta be an allergy to something. If it's not gone in a couple days I'll try anti-histamines. Just curious if anyone else has had the same thing or know what it might be?
Last time it was fall this time spring is there something that blooms or grows just in spring and fall?

Is it hard or soft? Was he in the same pasture last time? He may have a lymph node that swells if it's in the same spot. Maybe the poison ivy doesn't really agree with him or he is being stung or bitten by a bug and even though that's not where he was bit it makes that node swell. I hope the antihystamines work for him or they can figure out what it is.

If it comes & goes, especially at the same time of year, it sounds like an allergy. He may also have an infected tooth.

V last time it was end of Sept or beginning of Oct and a year and a half has gone by with no swelling.
HS, you know that big flat cheek bone on their face, it's a circle right in the middle of that like someone drew a 4"-5" circle right in the middle if it and injected clear gelatinous substance till it was 1/8 an inch high. It's kind of squishy to the touch but this time it's only 1/2 full.
Last time we floated his teeth but the vet didn't believe it had anything to do with his teeth. She checked everything and was stumped. We thought about bites, stings but nothing there.
Is there a lymph node there? I would think maybe a muscle but don't know what else it could be. It was dark when I got home, called them up and gave them hay and he's acting normal like last time. So if it's still swollen tomorrow I'll start him on the anti-histamine.

Ran into my vet at WM today and told her Buddy's swelling was back, lasted one day and was gone the next. She said she thinks it may be an allergy too. Doesn't think after all this time it would be the tooth bud we had removed 10 years ago. But she said she'll look inside his mouth when I bring him in Thursday. I asked if there were any lymph nodes or anything in the cheek? she said not really. Which is why we're thinking allergy to something.

I think I know what his swelling is from. He likes to rub that area between the jaw, underneath on the fence posts or trees or whatever he can find to rub it on. I discovered he rubbed so hard or so much that this morn he has a raw spot the size of a quarter under neath there but I'm betting it's an allergy to something he's rubbing on and maybe embedding in the process. Will know tomorrow maybe since it's VET DAY. WOOPEE

It sounds like he's itchy, that's for sure. I hope the vet can make some sense of it.

The vet wasn't back when I got there and the tech gave them their shots and drew their blood for the coggins. Teeth look good but Boomer has one very small point which will need to be taken down this fall. I'm thinking he's getting bit, stung or maybe rubbing on something toxic? by something that is making the jaw swell. Only happened twice so it's not serious. If it ever swells again though I'll check that area for a bite or sting.
