I've been meaning to stop by and say "HI" for some time now. Wanted to fill you all in on life here in Indiana since our move over a year ago.
I still have my appy, Scout. DD still has her pony, Tango. But she recently added a 16 year old mustang mare named Whisper to our lives! Whisper is broke, and has excellent ground manners, but needs finishing in the saddle, mainly in the steering department! She was broke with a halter, and responds ok ridden that way, but not perfect. She didn't seem to have a clue what to do with the bit, but she now will wear it and not mouth with it constantly. She actually wore it perfectly quietly yesterday, so that is great progress. DD is working through JL stuff as if Whisper was not broke at all, looking for any holes in her training, and now is up to 'giving to the bit'. She is having a blast with this intelligent beast! Can't wait to do trail riding together...hopefully by spring at the latest. We will also have to work through trailering, because she has not been in a 2 horse trailer at all, only stock trailers.
I stop in now and then and read what you all are up to, but am not having time to do much with discussion boards these days. Think about you all, and still enjoy checking in with JL books, mags and stuff I have on my shelf whenever things come up.
We cleared a trail behind our property, which now connects us to trails in the conservation club behind us...so that has expanded our riding from home! Soon the fields will be harvested too, so we can go around those. Otherwise we ride on the side roads quite a bit. We are also doing dressage lessons in our arena once per month...the instructor comes to us, which is awesome! I finally figured out how to trot bareback, at least in the arena...not brave enough outside yet :-)
That's about it from my end. I tried to add a pic of Whisper, but they all seem to be too big. Will try again later :-)
