I am working with a mare that is blind on the left side I can move her around the round pen to the right and do inside and outside turns with no problems. but moving to the left she can not see me so trying to get her to turn out is not working very well she will turn in with no problem. Any suggestions?

I've never had a blind horse but my horse had some vision impairment on his right side when we discovered he has glaucoma in that eye. He also didn't want to move to the right. I just held till he went, I think it's a trust thing. I would think that you need to make going the other way harder than the right way. Horses are lazy and would rather take the easy way out.

I wouldn't worry about outside turns at liberty; if she turns too close & bumps the fence you will loose her trust & trust is a very important thing for a blind horse! If they do not trust you, they will never be safe with you. If you want outside turns, try ground driving & make the outside turns slow to make sure she doesn't hit the fence.
