Been having a really good time with Marie; haven't had as much time to ride as I would have liked, but still playing with her. This last weekend I went out & both Bear & Colt were up by the gate; no Marie & no owners horses. So I turned on the water to the tank; yelled MARIE! And guess who came running; as fast as her little legs would let her (she actually beat the old paint mare). When I saw her coming towards me I turned around & started walking back to the gate. Marie actually came up to my right side & put her head between my arm/body & used her head to move my arm down her neck. She is such a sweet mare (& very energetic in this cold weather!).
Colt is doing well; his tumors are growing & they have invaded his lymph nodes (he looks like he has the mumps) but he is in good spirits & is eating well. He has slowed down a lot & doesn't run very much, so we are keeping an eye on him.
Bear is doing well; keeping his weight on really well. He is still the class clown & drives all the other horses nuts. I have started just turning Bear & Marie out in the (much larger) cattle pasture so they can run & play. I keep Colt up & groom him. He no longer runs/plays & the other 2 won't leave his side, so they don't run/play.

I'm so happy you're having a good time with Marie. Are you going to keep her?

Will the tumors end up causing major problems? how old is Colt now? Can't believe it's been cold there you're only 3.5-4 hours away I think. It's mid 60's here again today.

I am really loving Marie; even though she really has more energy than I wanted, she is really fun to ride. I wish I knew someone I could trust to ride her during the week though, she really needs more work than I can give her.
The vet said most likely the tumors in his mouth/throat will eventually make it difficult for him to eat/swallow. Most of his other tumors are small & few, but the ones in his throat are large & very numerous. But, he could also have more tumors internally that we don't know about. Best guess for his age is about 20. We've been running 50's/day,30's/nights here for several weeks now.

I imagine it would be pretty invasive to remove so many tumors.
Have you thought about 1/2 leasing Marie?

You can't remove these type of tumors, it actually causes them to become much more invasive & to spread more. I actually have thought about leasing Marie to a show home with a junior rider. I may talk to her former owners to see if they know anyone looking for a beginner show horse.
