my colt 5 yo is coughing. He can't even walk 25feet without inducing a coughing spell. No fever; no discharge in nose. I have been checking on him 3 times a day and monitoring it. Can't figure it out. He's out on pasture and as long as he's grazing, he's fine. He has a vet appointment 9am Friday. I'm hoping the vet can get him back to normal! Will keep you updated.

That's weird. Maybe he's breathed in something like mold spores?

Could he have sucked something down the wrong pipe? That can keep going on for a bit.

Oh, that's too bad I hope the vet can find out what's going on, and take care of it.

I wonder if something is stuck too? Hope the vet can figure it out for you!

Could it be allergies? We had a horse with allergies and she acted much like what you are describing. She had trouble for a couple of weeks to a month every spring.

Thanks guys. He was fine tonight. I caught him and put in the rp for the night. He walked the whole way without coughing. I fed him his hay but soaked it good, and no coughing. He did cough a few times when I put the halter on. Hopefully that is a good sign.

We went to the vet this morning: no infection, but he has inflammation in his airways. He's out of commission for weeks, and we have to stall rest him. He also gets 3 more days of steroid shots and a container of antibiotics.
If his condition worsens, we'll have to scope his airway to find the culprit. I hope he just gets better!

I hope the stuff he's on does the trick!

He probably choked on something, both my boys have done that & it gives them a sore throat for a week or so. Hope he heals up quickly!
