When I was raising POA's, I had a small Appaloosa mare that was just a doll. She had some pretty amazing offspring, too. Some went on to do really well in the show world. When it came time to sell my broodmares, I contemplated keeping her. She really wasn't broke, so I really felt she needed to go on being a broodie. I sold her to a lady that only kept her until she foaled. The foal was solid, so she sold them both. I didn't find this out until much later, and lost track of the horse completely. Later, someone who owned one of her offspring, ( the pony has done quite well), wanted to buy her. She went looking for her and told me not to look...I wouldn't like what I found. This has bothered me for years. I have searched and searched, and finally gave up. Then....just last week, I got an email from an 11 yr old girl. She had found my old pony website and found the mare that she now OWNS on the site! She emailed me and sent pictures!!! I can't tell you how happy this makes me. She uses her for trails, and just around the yard. They got her from a rescue. She was in pretty bad shape when the rescue picked her up. ( I know I can't always keep a horse that I own, but from now on I will be so careful if I have to sell one. I thought I was being careful, but the fact is you can't control what someone else does after you sell them a horse. Their life changes, too. Anyway...such a happy ending!! I am thrilled.

Nana, what a WONDERFUL thing to find out!!! I am so excited for you!!! It's sad that your pony had to go through so much, but am so happy that she now has a little girl who loves her so much What a happy ending to the story! And a big relief for you!

This is very cool! I love it when people keep in touch and share their love for their animal with the former owner...it's as it should be to me. I just heard from the people who bought our foal, Kiwi....they still love her to pieces and ride her all the time. Glad you found her (or she found you?) :-)

I usually send a couple of updates per year to Fanny's breeder, and last year the breeder actually came out to see us! It was so neat.

The little girl's mom asked me to call, and I finally got a chance this evening. It was sweet! They have done so much for the mare. She was totally lame, and they were told she had navicular. She just needed to be trimmed correctly, and now is sound. The girl trail rides her and has started jumping her!
The lady they got her from rescued her from an owner who was sending her to kill. She lost a foal, and had complications that made her unsound for breeding, so they just decided to ship her. The rescuer said she'd take her, and they gave her to that person. Then the current owners found her on Craigslist when that person was trying to find her a good home. YAY!!
I'm so happy about this. It truly has bothered me for a long time.

I'd hate not to know where my horses ended up. Glad you finally found her.

I am so happy you found her, I know how it feels to want to know how an old horse is doing & not be able to know.
