Well since only LMM has decent riding weather I thought I would just do a thread for horse time. Today we took all three horses for a walk. We go to each end of the road and back and that's about a mile. Everybody got a little exercise. DH and I traded off on which one had to work 2 horses and who had just 1. They were all pretty good but everybody was really interested in the grass. Good thing most of the road doesn't have a lot of grass. We cleaned hooves and put on Thrush medicine since it's so muddy in their pen. Their feet looked pretty good for as much mud as we have. I don't think anyone actually has thrush yet but they seem to get it each winter. If the neighbor fixes the CAT D8 dozer we can get some big rock worked into the mud. Does anyone use sawdust/shavings to help combat mud? If I dumped a lot of it in my muddy areas would it help them? We cleaned the stall area and put down shavings when we put everyone back. Everybody also got a good brushing. Winnie just laid her head in DH's arms while I brushed on her.

We used to put sawdust, composted pine trees and sand in our muddy areas and it worked great although we had a corral that was in a low spot and it took about three dump trucks over about 6 months to bring it up so it'd quit being a boggy area in the melted snow. I would assume the sawdust alone would blow out with our wind.
My horse time was putting drops in Buddy's eyes this morn and tonight. My guys really need a spa day.

GR, Actually last weekend (Saturday at least) wasn't good for riding. Rainy, cool & windy. We had the Christmas potluck at the barn so nobody really was out there to ride. Sunday I went to church (YAY!)with a girl from the barn. Really liked the church. She & I rode for a bit Sunday afternoon. I also went to the Bible study at the church on Wednesday night. Plan to keep going even though I won't be able to make my usual Sunday morning ride. Just have to push it back to Sunday afternoon until the weather gets too hot for that. We had a bunch of rain again on Wednesday so not sure about the footing for riding tomorrow. Kim (the girl I went to church with) and I are going to lunch tomorrow. I'll check out the mud in the morning & decide on riding or not. Just so depressed right now I don't really feel like riding at all, but so glad I finally found a church I think I'll like.

Sounds like you are being drawn so YEAH for you. Usually means God has something to say doesn't it? I don't like my church but am too tired to look for another. I do like the pastor and he's good. Ours is all old people my parents age anyone with younger kids goes to the Baptist church in town as they are HUGE and even have a theater and skate rink. And the Assembly is huge and full of younger people too but I'm in the middle. No little kids and not yet 70! I go with my parents mostly because I don't have to drive and I go on Sun nights because I work the 7-4 shift and am too dang tired to do anything more than take care of the horses and then plop into the backseat for church.
It's perfect riding weather here but with Buddy's fungal infection on that eye I'm afraid his vision is limited which could cause him to be more spooky and not sure if riding is even a good idea. Plan to take him back to the vet on Mon or Tues when I'm off.
For now my horsey time will be feeding, doctoring and hopefully grooming. Poor Boomer is having a bad hair week!

GR, what about riding Boomer for a change? He might like the attention. What happened with those other horses? LMM, I'm glad you found a church you like. I'm also sorry to hear you are feeling depressed. Is it the holidays? I don't care much for them. They give me too much anxiety. It was way worse though when I was single and working retail.

I could and might ride him again it's just that he's not exactly "relaxing." He's go go go and bounce bounce bounce.

Yea finally got some riding time. Wind died down a little at least till I got the saddle up on his back. BRRR Rode down the road, Joe and a friend were driving by and we stopped and visited a few min then we rode back past the driveway and down the road in the other direction just because Buddy was a little too enthusiastic about getting home. Then when we did turn into the drive I let Buddy eat grass for 10 min before taking him up to the back and un-tacking him and putting his drops in.
With the wind blowing and his eye still a bit hazy he never got spooky. He did seem like he's more alert to his surroundings but the wind was pretty gusty and he hasn't been ridden in 6 wks or so? I've got no complaints. Also got to see him pee which I'm supposed to keep an eye on because of the tumor on his sheath so I'm not so nervous about my poor boy's health.
