Since LMM is moving into a new house and decorating with new furnishings, V is working on finding a new place, HS has been redoing their place and I'm getting ready to do a make over down here I thought I'd ask you all to share some ideas.
With mom's room we did a new area rug, and finally got her to pick a comforter today and this week we're going to be painting. (Roasted Chestnut is her first option)
In my room I'm looking at spicy red and plan to paint just one large wall leaving the other one baked adobe. Like the mix of the two colors. My other wall is paneled. Besides the new quilt I added two blue throw pillows and a tapestry pillow with a cowgirl and horse.
One of the cool decorating ideas I saw was for curtain tie backs. I like the one where they took a stretch of lace like a garter and glued flowers in the middle all the way around it. I'm thinking a couple pieces of velcrow for closures. My quilt is rose buds so it'd match...BUT since my bedroom is western/horse what can I use for curtain tie backs that would be western?
Also thinking about some hanging plants & brackets that take little light.

Hey Denise! Just dropping in to see what's going on here. Haven't been here in awhile (oops!). Decorating is always fun. What about a leather strap or braided leather for the tiebacks? Or even braided baling twine, if you want to go really rustic...but might look cute with the rose buds? Someone more creative than me will hopefully respond :-)

I was thinking barbed wire, the old rustic kind done up in a spiral but it'd rip the heck out of my fabric! And can't think of how I could dull the barbs enough? I thought about something like the breast collar straps but I think they'd be too heavy and slide off. I was also thinking maybe a shoo-fly but would need something to attach it to. Some braided leather might do it. Unfortunately here the hay twine is that orange plastic type. I haven't seen the burlap colored kind since leaving WY. Not sure if I could incorporate flowers and shoo-fly?
I stopped at Ace and picked up about 50 paint colors and hope mom can pick something she likes. I found plenty for mine. LOL
Anyone have anything cool for the fan pulls?

I had immediately thought of barbed wire too, and rejected it for the same reason you did. I don't think there is a way to dull them enough to keep your fabric safe. If the curtains aren't really big when drawn back maybe a snaffle bit with each end hooked over a hook on the wall. If the curtains are big then maybe two bits hooked together. When you say fan pulls do you mean on the chain to change speed? We put remotes on ours so we didn't have to worry since the fan is 20' in the air. If they don't need to be too functional then cowboy hats or horse shoes the size of ones on key chains might work. Jewelry making suppliers might have oversized charms also. Have you looked at any of the wallpaper borders they have? We put a really neat one in our bathroom that has moose, deer and bears on it. We also have one with grape vines to put up in the kitchen. I'm sure there are some western themed ones as well.

I did think about the borders but because two walls are paneled I don't want to put the sticky stuff on the paneling and I don't know if doing just the two walls would look okay where they meet the panel? I did see some running horses I loved though. I went to WM and saw they have a doohickey that actually attaches to the ball chain so you can turn ornaments into chain pulls. I have an old charm bracelet with horses and saddles and hats etc.. I think they're nickel or steel but tried to wire the charm onto the ball. Hard on the fingers and didn't look too good. So I picked up some split rings and those doohickeys. Only problem is the charms are only like an inch so I may look for something bigger.
My curtains are on a sliding door so the middle one is free standing. The two outer ones could be pulled back and hooked to something but it'd have to have a glue backing since the wall on both sides are cement. I looked at WM for flowers to do the flowers on the lace and didn't like anything. Might try Hobby Lobby next time I'm there. OHHH I have a cute leather saddle given to me at Christmas...need to find another matching one or something the same size and type.

The walls are now Terra Sol, it's kind of a dark brick color in between red/orange and brown. It WAS an old light icy blue. (no imagination) LOL Waited till mom went to town with Claire, amish lady and got it done in 2.5 hours. She's arranging and organizing now. Her quilt should be here Fri and then it'll just be little stuff like hanging stuff on the walls. I have to get a masonry bit to drill a hole and put an anchor/screw in the cement wall.
HS have you hung stuff on concrete and had to drill a hole? anything I should know? I'm scared it'll crack all the way across the house!!!
Took a nap and when I got up it was nice outside. It cooled off to mid/upper 70's because we had a storm coming through. Got in an hour ride before it turned black and started rumbling. Diesel couldn't get home and in the shower room fast enough. The only downside was the flies. I sprayed the horses this morn but sprayed Buddy before riding and they were still annoying. They weren't biting just flying around looking for a hole in the spray.

GR, if you are using a masonry bit you shouldn't have any trouble. Just go slow, it's different than wood. Are you using plastic or metal inserts in the hole? Don't forget to size up accordingly. The size bit you need should be listed on the package.

I think you can use the plastic ones for light stuff. If it's something big and heavy you would definitely need the metal with lag bolts. If you don't already have the inserts you might ask about them when you get your drill bit just to be sure you get the right ones. I'm not sure if there is a difference.

Went to Lowes and the guy helping said because my stuff was light the plastic ones would do, then he showed me the right drill bit. We bought a new water softener also. Our old one went down three years ago and mom heard if you have heart trouble the salt isn't good for you....SF doesn't have heart problems he had stints put in so they decided to go back to softened water. YEA!!
We bought a new medicine cabinet for down here also, since I'll be putting holes in the concrete may as well add a couple more.
We weren't sure we could get out of the driveway this morn. It's flooded awful. (4" overnight and another 1/2" between breakfast and 9am) Still coming down.

I wish someone would have told me about the new bed skirts/bed ruffles! you don't have to lift the mattress up they slide over the top mattress and you pull them down into place. LOVE THEM!!! I bought a second one. Also has an 18" drop which is great since I have the block things that raise the bed up about 8". Diesel sleeps under my bed and hides under there when it rains or storms.
did I tell you about the red and blue bandanas? they made great curtain tie backs.
