We are thinking of getting some hoof boots for the girls since most of our riding seems to be on gravel roads. We have a local dealer for Easy Boots and I was wondering if anyone has used them? I liked the both the trail and glove versions. What brands has anyone used and what did you think of them. We need easy to put on too.

Because both my guys have bell shaped hooves and there's a few boots out there that say not for bell shaped hooves...it was hard for me to take a plunge especially since they are like $99 EACH! Now why don't they come in pairs? So about 4 or 5 years ago I went to the horse fest and found a booth that had the Cavello's. I purchased a set of red size 3 black Cavellos ($129 for a pair) but they ended up being a tad too small so I bought a pair of Red ones on the Cavello site in size 4 (one size bigger than his horse shoes) and used the black ones for the back hooves. They didn't look like they were going to last more than two years but they are sturdier than they look. I love the way they go on, these are the ones with two separate straps and Buddy doesn't have a problem wearing them either. The red ones were on sale for $99 a pair through Cavellos. I want to replace them but haven't found them on sale lately. They do have the pink ones on sale regularly but I can't bring myself to put pink on the horses. I use them when I pull the shoes in the fall till I put shoes back on in June or July.
I put the black ones on Boomer's front hooves once when Sarah rode at the park with me because it's a lot of rock but found that even there his hooves are plenty hard. Money wise I don't think there's a hoof boot as cheap and if these hold up over 5 years then they must be well made. And you can get the pink ones! LOL
C and M her friend who went to WY with us last year both ride in Cavello's, they have the trail one I think, it's the one with the check mark shaped closure. C has a TWH and M trains a lot of different horses but took an Arabian so they fit a lot of different shaped hooves.

I got the easyboot gloves (royal blue!) for Scout's front feet last year. She hates walking on rocks and tends to take me to the side of the trail to avoid them....thorn city! Anyway, they are holding up great so far, and are easy to hose off afterward. I don't like putting them on because I don't have very strong hands....my barefoot trimmer puts them on and makes it look easy though. Also, they go on easier after a trim, but by the end of the 6 weeks they are a bit harder to wrestle on. I only use them if we are going more than one hour. Most of our rides are on gravel road or trail at some point in the route, but I figure she can deal with it for a "quickie".

Do the easy boots fold all the way back so the bottom is all you have to put on? The Cavellos have a tongue and you can pull it all the way back, hold the boot in one hand and stick it on the horses foot. You can do it all with one hand.

Easy Boot has a large range of styles. The Trail is like those Cavellos. I measured Winnie and her feet are apparently round The width and length are very close to the same. I'm going to remeasure them to be sure I did it right. If the measurements are correct she doesn't fit in any boot. I'll have to call the company and talk to them to find out what to do. I hope she fits in one. The Gloves fit very tight and require very careful measurement so they are harder to put on. The Trail gives you a little more flexibility on the measurement. They have everything in between and even have shoes.

That's what the trouble was with Buddy. Both my guys have bell shaped front feet...round. A couple of those said not for bell shaped feet. I don't know if this helps but Buddy wears a size 3 horse shoe and a size 4 boot. Did your measurement come out a size bigger?

Yes, they fold back and, in theory, you can do it with one hand....but like I said...weak hands! I use two and then give it a couple taps with a hammer! Scout isn't thrilled.

I bought a rubber mallet for them but have never needed it. I have strong hands and arms. The thing that gets me is bending down to put them on. My tendons that hold the knee's up are not totally healed so I can only squat so far down and hold...hold...hold. The whole time I'm squatted down my knees are getting more and more stiff and sore. Better though than a year ago when I couldn't' do that.

The lady at Action Rider Tack was so awesome. We took the measurements in and she sent us home with fit kits for 2 different styles of Easy Boots. It is the shells of 3 different sizes, the one you think most likely and one size larger and one smaller. You can see what really does work for you. If you order from online dealers they charge you for the kits. She just gave them to us and we'll try them tomorrow and see what happens.

Cool, we don't have that here. We don't even have a tack store that carries boots.

Had my trimmer out today and thought of this thread....she recently went to a Pete Ramey (Ramsey?) clinic and learned something helpful about boots. Today she took mine and heated them with a paint remover gun and put them on Scout which "custom fit" them so that they are now way easier to put on and take off! I'm excited because I know I will use them more now.

We ended up getting Easy Boot Trail boots for Winnie. They are really easy to put on and take off and Winnie seems to love them. Whitey takes the same size and she will get hers soon.

Missed the post..that's cool that she can make the fit better by heating them up. Being leather I wonder if getting them wet and leaving them on till they're dry would do the same?

I don't know, but good question! I will try to remember to ask her when she comes at the end of Oct. She heated them til the plastic was soft and put them on Scout and left them on for about 10 minutes til completely cooled. Then she made a notch on the left one, so I'd be sure to put them on the proper "customized" foot.

With mine the velcrow opens up on the sides if you put them on wrong the velcrow straps would run on the inside of the horses legs and probably open up.
