HS, I hope everything is going smoothly with the plans for your mom's service? Will you have a lot of family coming in for it? We're having a "celebration of life" for one of our friends from work and another funeral this week. So many people I know have passed this year. I guess it's just the older we get the older our friends are. I've been thinking lately about the horses and what would happen if I died too.
V I was wondering about rescues? do they take injured horses? or horses that will need meds their whole life? I need to discuss what to do with my boys. I have three insurance policies but one is only $1,000 and free from my bank. I wonder if you can will money to a rescue to take on a horse? No one would take Buddy with arthritis and glaucoma. LOL
lmm somedays I am tired of horses. I don't want to give them up but I'd like to have just a month to not worry about putting miles on a green one and meds on Buddy and not have to feed them grain at 11pm or 5am. It must be freeing.
I put in for two extra vacation days the wk before TGD and Black Fri. Not going to do a thing. Except ride and clean corrals. LOL

GR, my mom requested that there be no service so there is nothing really to do. I started packing up her room today. I have all her clothes boxed up and they will be going to the women's shelter. We are keeping her bed, dresser and recliner. One of the caregivers is taking 2 bedtables and a bookcase. The lady that owns the foster home has told me to take a much time as I want clearing things out. She doesn't plan to take any new clients until after the first of the year. We've known her for about 8 years and she is very upset also. My nephew has been released to race again and they will be heading to Las Vegas on monday for Duel in the Desert next week. I sure wish I didn't have to do all of this by myself. DH went with me today but he really has no idea how to pack anything and ends up just sitting there and then I feel guilty. He had his second cataract surgery done on wed so he can't lift anything anyway. He's doing good with it.

GR, It is freeing but I also feel guilty because of feeling free. I “do” guilt really well! I hope you enjoy your time off – I don’t envy anyone working retail this time of year. My daughter just got a PT job at Petsmart & is loving it. I did that for 4 years & enjoyed most of it. It’s funny, I used to work at a catalog store in Sioux Falls, then after I quit she ended up working there. Then I worked at a call center in SF and after I quit she got a job there. Now she has “followed” my example & working at PS. I guess the apple didn’t fall far from the tree! GR, Hope your DH is doing ok with his eyes. Not lifting & not bending below your heart were the 2 hardest things for me. At the time I had the surgery I was on horse property & had 2 horses to take care of by myself. My daughter was able to stay with me for a couple of days, but isn’t comfortable around horses so I still did all the horse chores. Looking forward to next weekend – a 3 day weekend – YAY!

All the rescues I checked with are full & none would consider taking another horse. They are basically taking only horses that are seized & the courts order them to take them. And the kill auctions are being overrun with purebred & registered horses, so many that the auction owners are putting them up for sale trying to keep them from going to slaughter! So, I decided not to sell or try to breed Marie, just not worth adding more horses to the slaughter sales. When I was going through a couple of different sale sights most were weanlings, yearlings or broodmares. Even well bred, registered mares with foal by their side & bred back & both foals with the breeding certificates so they could be registered. And it's only going to get worse.

My dad is the first in my life who didn't want a service, don't know if you can actually FEEL like they're gone without? I was thinking I needed to call dad and talk to him about the truck yesterday and it took a few seconds to remember he's not here anymore. It just doesn't seem final.
LMM you found him a great home, nothing to feel bad about but I understand I feel bad about that arab and he looks pretty content across the road. LOL
V Yeah I kind of figured the same here. I imagine the boys will just have to figure it out when I'm gone.
Did you see the shootings in TX? this country is getting worse every year. I wear jeans, western belt and my .38 to church. Our pastor has been talking about carrying and Anthony gave him a 9mm and he's been out to shoot a couple times but I think it's time our church come out with plans in case of an attack. Our Sunday school rooms have a glass window pane in the door so parents have access to what we're doing in the rooms. But they would be sitting ducks if a shooter entered.

GR, even after we had the service for my Mom, I still went to the phone numerous times to call her. Just so hard to get used to not having your parents here to talk to. I worry about my daughter if something happens to me. I just hope she continues to be close with her step-sisters/nieces. They are all she will have left after I'm gone, well except for her Dad my 2 sisters & a couple of cousins. I saw pictures of the church. It looked pretty small - so sad that it would happen at all, but seems like a small congregation would be even worse-too many close friends & family. Any idea of the motive? I'm making BBQ'd chicken breasts-on the stove, and Syracuse Salt Potatoes in my Instant Pot. LOVE those potatoes! I've even eaten the leftovers cold right out of the fridge!

I think evenings are the hardest for me. She called me every night about 8pm. I spent a lot of the time I spent with my Mom that last week telling her I would be fine, and that I would have my brother and his family and she could go whenever she was ready. Her caregiver and my brother both wanted me to reassure her because she was worried about what would happen to me when she was gone. It did seem to calm her.
Our friends carry everywhere they go. We have a very small town but there is a family here that gives concealed carry classes. That town in Tx only had a population of about 500. Our church in town is mostly senior citizens, they don't even have a Sunday school, just a single service on Sunday morning. They have a women's and a men's bible study on Wed mornings. If they had it in the evening I don't think anyone would go since very few of them drive at night anymore.

Our old church had Sunday School and church on Sunday morn and a bible study on Wed mornings too. I liked it better than nights when I'm beat from the daily grind.
They said that Kelley was married to a girl who's family attended that church but sounded like he had a beef with the ex-MIL, he was convicted of cracking his step son's head and abusing his wife. Sounded violent.
Mom hasn't used her pot once. Anthony had made stew the first week but now it sits on the counter collecting dust. URGH
I started carrying a month ago to church, things are just getting ruff and I don't want to be a sitting duck. In MO they passed a law that took effect in Jan that you don't need a paper to carry here.
I went out to feed the boys this morning and heard the guys clearing the woods. They brought in a bobcat and two trucks and were at it all day yesterday and started early this morning. I could barely see them through the trees but in one section I saw the bobcat tearing down the saplings then could see and hear them taking down the big trees. They plan on clearing a lane all the way around the perimeter so they can come into the area behind the run in's and take the trees they left there. He said they're taking the tree bodies to the lumber mill here because they can make a lot more than all the work to cut them up. Most of those trees are really huge oaks. Got a few black walnuts thrown in. Amos is supposed to come cut down the dead trees in the front yard and Justin thinks that when and if Amos cuts down some of the trees in the pasture area that he may want them to load them and take them to the mill for a slight fee as well. So it's looking like I may have a pasture next year. WOOHOO
I have to work late the next two nights because we'll be crazy before opening deer day Sat morn. I'm already tired, I've drug everything out of the back except a small 4' section so that we won't be stuck with it after season's over. Estus and doe urine, burlap and salt blocks...UGH

I used to be a pretty good shot, but between the arthritis in my fingers & the damage to both of my arms there is no way I could safely shoot a gun. I doubt if I could even hold a gun safely. We have active shooter training at my full time job twice a year, but I've never had it at any other job I've ever worked. All jobs should have active shooter training for the safety of their employees & customers.

Not only did that guy abuse his wife and kid he was court martialed and served time at the base at Mira Mar in CA. His conviction didn't get sent to the FBI so his background check cleared. He was ineligible to buy a fire arm but that oversight allowed him to slip through. Of course if he had been denied he would have found a way to get one anyway. It's getting bad out there. Yesterday a woman said she felt threatened and shot at a homeless guy who was yelling at her. She missed him, no one knows how. He has a long and violent history. Someone held up a bank today at knife point and carjacked some poor guy in a parking lot, cutting his arm. Tuesday a 16 yo boy shot his foster mother, foster sister and his bio sister and then just waited for his foster dad to come home. He told him to call the police and not to go in the house. The boy was some relation to the foster family. Oregon also happens to be an open carry state so as long as you don't cover your gun you don't need a permit. I don't know why we need a permit as the criminals sure don't worry about things like that. Just remember the simple phrase "I thought my life was in danger". That's the key phrase. Has anyone ever used one of those sonic rodent repellants? As soon as it gets cold everything wants to move inside with us. I've been trapping ground squirrels near the barn but I have a mouse in the house and where you see one there are usually more. I don't particularly want to kill them, just get them to leave and stay away. And my cats aren't helping. One was playing with the mouse and let it get away. She goes out tonight with no can of food.

I use tomcat bait, comes with a plastic box so the other animals can't get to it. The mouse eats it and becomes dehydrated and goes back out where their water source is to die and it's not lethal if the cat or dog find it dead. I have them in the tack shed and in the basement just in case they get past the 5 cats which are living in the house with us AGAIN.
The thing about people who carry is that they SHOULD go through a training class. They need to know how to handle a gun, their legal rights etc.. and I don't want any yahoo out there being too immature to carry one safely. I was disappointed in MO passing the law. Open carry has always been a right in WY and the young ones grow up in houses where it's no different than carrying a knife on your belt and when you start it doesn't give them a big head. Wish the youth here were like that. One of the guys who used to work with us used to carry and brag about his gun et.. then got into a scuffle over a girl in a parking lot and shot him. DUMB ass! I can lay you odds he would have backed off if he hadn't had it on him.
V, WM made us all take the active shooter video again after the shooting at the WMart three wks ago. It drops every year and then every time there's a shooting at a Walmart. Honestly it just tells you to run, hide or fight if you have too. DUH

In AZ you don’t need a permit to carry concealed. I got one anyway, figured the training & information couldn’t hurt. Now if .38 special ammo just wasn’t so expensive! Working for the county, the Sheriff’s dept. has mandatory active shooter training for all employees. Worthwhile, but a little scary too. It sure is nice to have today off. I need to go to Costco to pick up something I forgot last weekend and an item they have on sale from 11/9-11/16. We’ll see how much more I end up with!

They have built a new Costco here and it will open any day now. I forget the exact day. It's going to be larger than the one we have now. I guess I'll have to carry supplies to explore the whole place . Good thing I'll be able to resupply along the way. It's raining now big time. It's been pouring for hours. I had hoped to get another ride in in the pasture or RP before it got too soft. I guess I'll just have to take my chances on the road. At least I don't have to worry that getting hurt might upset my Mom. She always worried about that and I always worried that if I got hurt I couldn't take her where she wanted to go.

My mom gave up telling me to carry my phone etc.. I got a dog what more do I need for protection and if I come off I told her don't worry unless the saddled horse comes home without me. LOL It rained here too, I was going to ride this morn till I opened the door this morning and saw it was wet. It's not too bad though I may ride later if I feel energetic enough.
I think our new TSC is open, need to go to town and shop it but I went to the clinic after work yesterday and am on an antibiotic for an ear ache and sore throat. Good thing is that I have Sun and Mon off and took two vacation days so don't need to go back to work until Thursday. Going into Springfield with mom on Thursday to shop, need to go to Hobby Lobby for a canvas.
I wait till ammo goes on rollback and pick it up plus my 10% off helps. But the week after TGD if we work TGD we get an extra 15%off so most of us pick up ammo 25% off the shelf price.
I got up at 3am, back to bed around 7am so after watching tv for a couple hours I got cabin fever and took Diesel for a walk in the woods to see how the clearing is going. AWESOME!! the funniest thing is that Rain followed me around and when we hit where the woods were REALLY thick with trees, sapplings and viny crap they'd cleared a lot of it out and have the trees piled up, looks like a 2 lanethrough it and Rain took off bucking and running and farting as if too say WOOHOO more running room! I took a good look at the ground, it's soft nice topsoil throughout but not one single blade of grass because the sun hasn't shone there in years. I'm really excited for them to take out another 40 or so trees and if they run through there and tear up all the rest of that vine/sapling crap it's going to be better than I ever imagined.

We have a FB page for the local police scanner and one of the posts was shared from the Oregon State Police about 3 black tail deer that were killed and dumped near town. They removed the heads and some meat, probably only the backstrap, and then wasted the rest. One guy got on the comments and said it had to be rednecks because only they did stuff like that. Oh boy is this the wrong area to be saying that kind of thing. He got jumped all over and deleted his comments. He said he knew one guy from Job Corps that was a redneck because he did stupid stuff, but he lived to tell about it. He said this guy threatened to come down and beat him up but he wasn't afraid. His profile shows him to be a job hopper, he says it looks good on a résumé. He didn't finish HS but had to get his GED at the Community College. He said he finished Job Corps and got a job as a cabinet maker but that is never mentioned. He tries to sound smart but he can't pull it off. This poor boy doesn't stand a chance.
