How did it get to be December already?
I got a new home loan on my little home, it will combine the existing loan plus the loan on my retirement. I close on Tuesday & supposed to receive the funds on Friday. Will wait to see if the govt shuts down, if it stays open I'll pay down my retirement loan. Hopefully the next year will be better than this year has been!
My little Lola has been doing pretty good, but her time is coming. The vet said she is now getting the doggy version of congestive heart failure. She does fine until she lays down, her snoring is getting pretty bad.
Took Marie to a lameness specialist & her stifle injury is pretty bad; thought about breeding her but decided against it. I'd be almost 64 by the time he/she be ready to ride. So once I pay off my credit cards & put some into savings I'll think about buying another horse I can ride. As much as I like just being around the horses, not having 1 I can ride is pretty depressing.
All the other animals are doing well.
Did everyone have a good Thanksgiving? Hope everyone is on a good start for Christmas!

V, I sure hope you can find a home for Marie. We would like to find a home for Sage where someone would use her. It just can't be here since neither one of us can ride her now. I think she prefers an assertive rider. She has worked cows, been roped off of, hunted in the mountains and packed out an elk. When we went riding with the family that had her their 11 yo daughter rode her in the woods. We would see the dad ride her off alone from the house all the time. The problem was we had never seen the daughter try to go somewhere alone with her. She's great in a group, anyone could ride her if they went with the crowd. An assertive rider can make her go it alone and she stops fighting you after a bit. I want a horse that I don't have to fight to do everything if I wanted to go for a ride alone. My experience with that didn't go well and she started crow hopping until I lost my balance and came off. All I wanted was for her to canter for a short distance. Whitey on the other hand thinks cantering is fun and should be done often and fast, at least until she figures out that she has left her riding companions behind. She gets freaked and has to run flat out to get back to them. I had her nose pulled back to my knee and she was still running, sideways, until I let up and just let her go. I figured I would come out better if I fell without her to roll on me. I just want something I can enjoy riding. I'm sorry to hear that Lola isn't doing too well. We lost a chihuahua to CHF. We lost our beloved Gandalf on Thanksgiving day. I think he had some growths in his abdomen that ruptured. He was in the living room resting by the pellet stove and I couldn't wake him that morning before we left. He was gone when we got home. I covered him with a blanket that night and in the morning there was quite a pool of blood from his mouth. We took him to be cremated and we'll scatter his ashes over the pasture he spent a lot of time in watching everything going on. Between losing my mom a month ago and now Gandalf I've had a pretty sh#**y fall. I'm really past done with things and I really want to call it quits. It just isn't worth it any more.

HS, I’m sorry you are so down. I get that way every year around the holidays realizing that I don’t have any family close by and very few friends (local, not internet). Wish you lived closer so we could get together for lunch & things! Hang in there! I’m almost ashamed to say it – but most of the time I don’t miss riding. I’ve been having some balance/light headed issues anyway & certainly don’t want to be on a horse when they hit. I need to find another Dr. The one I had been going to moved to Georgia to take care of her aging parents. I HATE finding new docs! I need to run some errands today after getting my hair cut at 11:00. Going to try an inverted bob style. Thinking I might “brave” Costco to pick up a ham for Christmas. Going to be making it in my InstantPot. The turkey breast I did for Thanksgiving turned out awesome! I did put it under the broiler to brown/crisp up the skin for about 5 minutes after the stint in the IP. Between my air fryer and IP, I rarely use my stove/oven anymore.

GR, it was Gandalf I was talking about. Ah now I got it, sometimes it takes a bit! LOL Yes I love a dog that isn't yippy, Diesel will bark or growl a deep throaty sound that scares the beejeebee's out of people. But he doesn't do it often like the little dogs upstairs. Adopting another large dog would be wonderful for them and help protect the home as well? But then they do cost a pretty penny to upkeep too. Diesel is high maintenance with the special food he has to have, I'd love to buy cheap food from WMart like Purina or Pedigree like we bought for the boxers and it's so much handier than getting down the the pet store before work or after.
LMM I would not mind no longer wanting to ride, it's an expensive sport. But so far I still have the bug. Some days I wonder why especially when I have to haul and lug heavy things, fix fences or come off a spooky horse. I guess I'm just weird. I gotta say though I am joyfully giddy after an after church visit to TSC! They are open on Sundays and their sweet feed is as cheap as MFA or Kent where I get it already and they have a huge variety. We had a spiral ham last night, not sure how A. cooked it but the left over was really sweet and good. It was one of those wrapped in the purple foil with the glaze but no one else likes the glazed ham so they didn't use it.
Okay so those who have had senior horses... I thought about getting a senior feed but both the brand at TSC lists fattening things. One even has beet pulp and both says it keeps the horses weight up in his senior years. So is this not a good thing for Buddy who is overweight and trying to lose weight to limit the arthritis symptoms? right now I'm getting sweet feed but mixing it with rolled oats so he gets a cup of oats with about a cup of sweet feed to absorb his joint powder too. Buddy also is only 21 and not acting "old." Is there something else out there for overweight and older horses?
I need to plan a day to run Christmas gifts out to Matt's kids, maybe next Sunday after church. Or maybe I can bribe them into coming to Sunday candle lite service in two wks. LOL

GR, I'm making a pot roast in the IP tonight with baby potatoes & baby carrots. 60 minutes under pressure then 10 minutes natural release & then finish with a quick release. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Bought a 5 lb bag of baby potatoes at Costco so I'll "have to" make Syracuse Salt potatoes again since I'm only using a pound for the pot roast. The bag of baby carrots is huge, guess I can take them to work to snack on & leave the candy bars alone! I had Risty on the Nutrena Safe Choice Sr. Dry(no lolasses), but he only got 1/2 scoop a day. He really liked it though. Got to Costco a little before they opened this morning. Got what I needed & left in less than an hour & by then the parking lot was crazy. Glad I got there early & got a really close parking spot. I'm looking forward to the next 2 days. The supervisor from he!! (she's not even my supervisor) is off until Wednesday. She loves making everyone's life miserable. She is a very unhappy person & wants to bring everyone down to her level. She made my supervisor call me into his office last week for violating the dress code - I wasn't, by wearing tennis shoes on a day other than Friday-I wasn't doing that either. I wear my Ariat lace up riding boots since I never wore then to ride in & they really help my feet problems-bunions. I can walk without being in pain then I wear them. Anyway, my supervisor looked at them & said I was right-they are not tennis shoes, maybe borderline but they are ok to wear anytime. I told him I was sorry he got dragged into the situation. Why can't she just mind her own business??

Some people are nasty inside and no matter how they attempt to hide it...it always rears it's ugly head. I have one at work too, she's a Dept manager but lucky me not over me. She goes out of her way to make the new girls and even sometimes the longer term associates cry. I don't have to like her, I no longer work under her. And we have an unspoken understanding that neither of us likes the other. Today she came to SG's to see if I had tent stakes for some of our displays the wind was blowing over, she was all sugar and nice and thanked me when I showed her what we had. Yeah lady real genuine.
I'm going to start buying my own food the first. Cutting out bread AGAIN and taters and eating more veggies. I'm thinking about buying a treadmill but not sure about it hurting my tendons under my knees. Or maybe I can start taking Rain on walks away from the house and do something for us both.

Had a really good ride on Rain after church even though this was the first time he started to spook when Diesel ran up from our rear through a bunch of oak leaves. I yelled AUGHT and pulled back and he quit immediately and all he got out was the legs under and ready for flight. Settled right down...I can live with that. Then he was a bit spooky around the area where the guys were cutting logs this morning. They left the gas/oil cans and some other things because they were coming back. I think he didn't like the smell or the changes? but he was just a little skiddish. He hasn't been spooky before this and I wonder if most of it is the day is pretty breezy and things are blowing all around. He's getting so much lighter and starting to actually neck rein. We even worked up close to the corral with a lot of serpentines and he didn't get stubborn at all.
I'd leave D inside but I want Rain to be sacked out to all the noise D makes running all over chasing scents and squirrels. Maybe when we chase up deer then he'll be level headed like the mustangs.
Work has been CRAZY this last week, I threatened not to come back till after Jan 1st!

Well today my brother and older nephew came down for a meeting with the lawyer for my mom's trust. He went over things we need to do and gave us the paperwork we need authorizing us to be the new trustees. My brother brought one of his racing enclosed trailers and we moved all of Mom's stuff up to the house. I still don't know how he backed that trailer down our driveway. It fits a full size car and tool chests with spare tires and he backed it down the driveway like it was nothing. We have a hard time backing our 16ft boat down it without a LOT of jockeying around. I guess he's just had a lot more practice. I want to see him backing up his new hauler which has living quarters too and he had to buy a semi to pull it. He said his budget didn't run to an automatic transmission so he had to learn to use all those gears. Bricen is confirmed to race a midget at the Chili Bowl in Tulsa on January 10th. The same owner as last time is providing the car and pit crew. I saw a list of some of the other drivers and there are a lot of big names. It's funny to see NASCAR champions with a rookie designation for the race. No matter what caliber of driver you are only a rookie for your first attempt at the Chili Bowl. Here's hoping he makes the main event.

Why would you need to be a trustee after your mom passed? Cool about the racing I'm sure they both have lots of experience backing those cars and trailers. I can back my outfit pretty good but in a long area I may have to pull up to straighten out a time or two.
First storm last night, hoping to go to Springfield to drop off gifts tomorrow but church has been cancelled due to the storm coming in tomorrow early AM. UGH

GR, while my Mom was alive she was the trustee and was authorized to make withdrawls and any changes to the account. Now my brother and I are the trustees and either one of us can be the one to close out the account so we can distribute the funds in the trust. Before we were just beneficiaries and couldn't change anything. We are considering making some improvements on the barn and put in some type of arena area. Our weather just stays cold and damp but no snow. We'll be going to our friend's tomorrow for Christmas Dinner. They're making prime rib. They like it really rare but horrid person that I am, like it more well done. I told her I'd have her nuke mine a little doner this time.
Merry Christmas to Everyone!

GR, yes the accounts will all be closed and divided but the trust included a clause that we all needed to outlive her by 90 days or our share would revert to the trust to go to the survivors. That means we can't do anything with it for at least 90 days. My brother will be contacting the investment firm and dealing with getting an accountant. I think he already has one for his businesses that we'll use. Did your Dad own his house and was his GF on the deed? If it was a rental then it would be between the landlord and his GF if she wanted to stay there. If he owned it by himself you might want to call Legal Aid in whatever county he lived in to see if they can help you. You can also contact the county courthouse to see if a will was filed for probate or if they have him as dying intestate (without a will). If your Dad had assets I would imagine he had a will as most people of his age group do.You really should check because if he has a mortgage on the house in just his name or the GF stopped making payments it could go into foreclosure without you knowing. If the GF doesn't want to share anything with you, and it didn't sound like she did, she might not have given contact information for you or your sister to authorities. You should also order a long copy of his death certificate for your own records and to make sure the correct information was given to the county.
Today would have been my Mom's 95th birthday. I miss her so much. I am so tired of having to take care of DH for no real reason. He can't (won't) do anything for himself and I am barely functioning myself.

My dad moved in with a woman 10 or 12 yrs ago. She then owned her home but was in financial trouble so dad gave her money and bailed her out of her trouble in exchange she/they put his name on the deed to her house with hers. He owns half the house. He also had a huge new bedroom built above the garage for them. He said the house was worth $450,000 or more. She told me yes she had him put on the title of the house. This is as far as we have gotten. Not sure what happens with the house? She has lived there for 50 yrs and doesn't want to lose it but she won't even send me dad's things unless I send her money and she's already sold off most of his things that are good items. So what's left is basically old lions club vest/greasy and dirty she said, and some photo's and my old saddle.
It's COLD here, -5 is supposed to have been the low last night.

I would check with Legal Aid in whatever county it was in. As far as I understand, and I could be wrong, if he died without a will then his share of the house (1/2)would go to you and your sister unless there was a right of survivorship attached to the deed. She would then need to either buy you and your sister out by paying you half the value of the home or sell the house and give you half the proceeds. CA doen't recognize common law marriage so don't let her try to tell you otherwise. This was CA right? If it was another state you can google it to check, I know OR doesn't recognize it either. Even if you don't want to take it to that extreme and just want to leave her be you would still need to file paperwork to remove your Dad from the deed. You might want to check the county tax records to see the appraised tax value and if the taxes are current. Your Dad should show up as an owner on the records. The records are public and most counties have a website you can access to check. Usually all you need is the address. It's really tough when you don't really know about their finances. My Mom had always kept me updated on hers and had drawn up a will. When my SF died he had everything very much in order and his will was very specific. There was even a list of the guns that were hers in the gun room and other property in the house that belonged to her. It was still not easy because his son wanted to claim everything. Neither my brother or I are very concerned about the money or are out to get everything we can from each other so it's just a matter of going through the steps which is tough enough. Having to do things long distance is really hard.
I hope everyone has a Happy New Year. I am snuggling dogs and watching Investigation Discovery.

Thanks Martha I will definitely check things out. I know she's not claiming common law and that it is in his name and she said she couldn't get it out of his name and hope we don't do anything to out her. I was fine signing it over but that was when she was supposed to give me the things my dad said were mine. She hasn't said word one to me since telling me to send her $75 and she'd take a couple things to UPS and have them boxed up and sent to me. A dirty lyons vest with some pins and some photo's of the kids I'd sent dad over the years. I told her they're copies and I don't want them but that's all she wants me to have.
