Happy Labor Day weekend! I took a vacation day yesterday so get a 4 day weekend-yay! The weather is finally dropping below triple digits. I think our Monsoon is over for the year-no rain in the forecast. Going to try to catch up on some cleaning & stuff that I've been putting off. Hope you all have a great weekend & get to spend time with your horses

GR, Retirement will always be on the table, but now not for a few years. With no real retirement now I have to work long enough to build something back up. Have you considered putting Diesel on a strict gluten free diet? I've had more than 1 dog with "grass allergies" that completely went away with a gluten free diet. 1 dog, Lola, was on prescription strength anti reflux meds before making her gluten free.
We are supposed to get rain here tonight through the next 5 days. Didn't get any rain when we needed it, so crops are crap; now we are getting rain almost every day & what crops did grow can't be harvested! The hay here is terrible this year, most people hayed really late so it is woody & full of weeds.
Found out the owners of the stable I'm boarding at is selling out. I'm tired of this; move my horses, which isn't easy with no truck or trailer, & then the stable closes. Have no idea where to move the horses now, there just isn't that many stables around here.

V, I feel for you having to move to another stable again. I was so lucky to find such a good home for Risty or I probably would have been looking for another place to board. Now I found out that the owner is engaged & has bought an Air BNB a couple of hours from here. (She has lots of $$$) It has really nice pasture boarding. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her & new hubby move there & leave the current stable to her daughter to run. The daughter & I never really got along-she was so possessive of her mother. Didn’t want her talking to or riding with anyone at the barn. I can’t imagine that she gets along with her mother’s boyfriend. Anyway, I’m glad to be out of there even though I do miss Risty. I’m still debating on Medicare & time is running out! I turn 65 on 10/11. Still have retirement in the back of my mind. I’ll wait until I can get full SS at 66, & then see how things look. Happy Labor Day weekend!

LMM, my doctors are trying to get me to retire now, but at just 60 I don't even qualify for early SS. My retirement from the state if KS is only $450/month & if I retire from the IRS right now, I'll only get about $900-1,000/month. If the budget gets signed this fall I promised my drs I would at least quit Price Chopper, but like I told them I can't afford to until I know if I have a job or not with the federal govt. Since trump has on several occasions now said he plans to shut the govt down "for the long term", I have to have a back up job.
I have friends that told me I can move my horses to their place; it is small but since neither horse can be ridden I don't need a lot of space. I just don't want to be a bother, they have a business they run out of their home & don't want to disturb them every weekend. I do know they could use the extra money though.

Once again our area is burning. The newest fire is in California, right on I5, north of Redding and south of Mt Shasta. Yesterday they closed I5 and it still isn’t open. The fire is burning on both sides of the freeway and several semis had to be abandoned and burned. The only detours are on two lane roads that are really winding. They have had several blockages as the roads aren’t really suitable for the semis or the amount of traffic they’re getting. One truck got stuck when it couldn’t make a curve and closed one detour for several hours. They hope to open it tomorrow but nothing is certain. It’s not easy to close the main N/S route for the west coast. My brother and nephew were south of Redding for a race in Chico and were headed home when the fire was reported. Fortunately they passed through the area about an hour before the fire. The detours add 3-5 hours to the travel time. They had a big trailer and it would have been a tough drive.

Is the Redding fire just an expansion of what was already on fire? or a separately started fire? Would be so tired of smoke!!
I'd love to retire but then I would probably just sleep away my days. v sounds like a great thing to move them to a friends place? LMM have you heard from Risty's new owner lately?
I am so tired after a week at work that I swear I spend half my days off sleeping. I took 5 vacation days,10-2 through 10-6 plus my two days off on the front and back so yea me 9 vacation days. I still have 110 hours of pto so anything acquired or left over by the new year I'll get paid for. Rather have the days off but from Nov through the first it's hard to get time off.
Rode for all of 15 or 20 mins. The huge horse flies were terrible but Rain wasn't too bad with the spray on. But one bit me on the leg and that was enough.

GR, I see her FB posts. I was so lucky to find such a good home for Risty. I think she rides quite often - that is really good for him! Congrats on the vacation time!

GR, this is a whole new fire, but it did connect with another fire currently burning there. This morning for the first time since Wednesday afternoon they reopened the highway. Just one lane each direction, subject to reclosure at any time depending on the fire’s behavior. They also have restrictions in place banning any flammable loads like fuel or logs, and all the truck trailers have to have metal sides. They only have 5% containment on the fire. It isn’t a heavily populated area but there are small communities along the road. Southern Pacific Railroad has tracks through there too and they had water cannons mounted on flatbeds fighting the fire from the tracks. Amtrak also runs on those tracks and they shut down the run from Seattle to LA.
We went on another ride Sunday afternoon and this time I rode Whitey. She was great for me. I have my new saddle that I hadn’t really gotten to use and when I pulled it off her there was a beautiful even sweat pattern on her. No dry spots in it. I think that having a good fitting saddle is making her happier. I also changed her bridle and bit. I used a full cheek snaffle and had the bridle shortened up a bit further than her other one. She had a little more wrinkles around her mouth and she never pulled on her bit or did any head shaking. I think maybe she liked it better and the bit hadn’t been sitting in a comfortable spot. I’m going to leave it the way it is for now and see what happens. Maybe a few adjustments made her more comfortable and so more calm. Whatever did it I'll take it.
We may end up moving from here. We’ve been looking on the net at Lander, WY. DD’s grandparents used to live there and DH always liked it. The drugs and crime in the Valley are getting out of hand. The druggies are stealing everything that isn’t nailed down and some things that are. People are walking right up to houses in broad daylight and stealing their cans for recycling. They raised the deposit here to $0.10 and also increased the kinds of bottles and cans that require them. The one gallon water bottles and any beverage bottle including juice and sports drinks. We also have a huge homeless population that set up camps wherever they can. Since that court decision says the police can no longer issue tickets or arrest people for sleeping on sidewalks or other public areas I’m not sure what will happen now. They leave so much filth they truly are a health hazard. Needles, trash, human feces, lighting fires, and threatening or assaulting people just trying to use the public areas they have laid claim to, such a wonderful place. There have been groups lately that we have found out have been given one way bus tickets here along with a list of social services and where to find them. Like we don’t already have enough homeless of our own we need to bus them in. Our jail is running at full capacity and needs to be at least 3 times it’s current size to make any impact. Only the very worst criminals are held more than a couple of days and most are back on the street before the officer gets all his paperwork finished. It’s a total joke. We’re hoping to get somewhere with less homeless and less liberal.

HS; KC,MO has a huge homeless problem. And a pretend homeless problem. They drive in with really nice cars, beg on street corner & drive home. A lot of "homeless" really aren't, they just make their living that way. A few weeks ago a truck pulling a huge trailer full of hay caught on fire, he stopped & got out without being injured right on top of a bridge. All the burning hay fell off trailer onto the ground under the bridge & the firefighters used a small bulldozer to push all the hay into a pile. I told my co-workers all they were doing was postponing another fire because the water couldn't get to all the hay piled in a huge pile & any ember left will just cause another fire. The next morning the pile was on fire again & the police were blaming the homeless because they were sleeping on the hay.
Been having a really hard time working at P.C.; I'm in so much pain when I get off work the only way I can sleep is with pain meds & muscle relaxants.

Medford is right on the I5 corridor and there is a lot of heroin and meth here. Not all of our homeless really are either, unless you go by the definition some government survey used. Anyone residing in the home of a relative or friend was considered homeless. We had a good chuckle over that with a friend who moved in with her parents to help out with her Dad when he had coronary problems. Quite a few of our homeless are Vets, or at least claim to be. We have a Veteran’s health center here with a drug and alcohol rehab section. Some just quit the program and never leave the area. There are also a lot that have been given a bus ticket here from another area clearing out their homeless problems. We have RV’s everywhere that we refer to as the mobile meth labs. Most of them are parked in store lots or at city parks until they get told to move. Some even park on the street. They seem to attract a lot of visitors that don’t stay long but visit often. I was at Lowe’s a few weeks ago and there was a guy parked in a car way out in the lot but in a corner that was shielded by the storage buildings display models. Someone would walk up to it and bend down and talk to the guy for a minute and leave. Really? People just walk by and stop to chat for a moment? When we stopped by again a week later to get the item number for one of the little sheds there he was again parked out there. Just likes sitting out there in the heat and smoke? We have quite a few problems even in our tiny town. The tweakers camp out in the woods but they still roam our streets. They all come out in the late afternoon/early evening. Someone will post on our neighborhood watch page alerting others that the zombies or the walking dead are on the streets. It’s very sad as most of these are local people and everyone knows who they are and how they used to be.

Springfield no longer allows the homeless to beg on the street corners or they get tickets. They also have a bus that picks them up and will take them to jobs that pays them to work so the city no longer feels like they are poor and can't change their circumstance. We know if they really want to work for food/money they have the opportunity and if they don't then they're lazy and want a hand out. It works good for those who need to work but can't get a job due to no address.
Lander was our haunt when I was in Wy. We used to drive to Lander for groceries it was 50 miles away and the closest grocery. My ex MIL lives there and a lot of my highschool friends. Couple ex boyfriends etc... LOL It's only 9 miles from the turn off to Louis Lake where us girls go to Lander so you could join us for the womens'ride along/camp out. COOL COOL!! But WY is really cold and a lot of the year too, hard on arthritis. I posted pic last year of Sinks Canyon outside of Lander they also have a fish hatchery there. Not much work around Lander though. My ex BIL works for the place that builds life size steel statues. They are gorgeous.
I burned up the bottom 150lbs of the last round bale, since the grass came up fast after the drought was gone and they no longer wanted hay. It burned for a whole wk! I didn't even know it was still burning till I walked by and saw the smoke. Hay burns forever.
Forgot to say Diesel is on a glutton free diet. He gets no grain at all, no chicken and no chicken byproducts. He gets a food called Victor Salmon & sweet tater Yukon River formula. He gets only treats with one word. Lung, ears, rawhide etc.. He's back on his Apoquel and no more itch.
V mom has been having the same thing and her Vicodin and muscle relaxer hasn't worked so good so she started trying the CBD oil and it's working really really good but you have to be careful to find the stuff that doesn't have a ton of other things diluting it. It's also a better alternative to dog allergies than the apoquel so I"m going to order some before his present prescript is gone. Our Chiropractor said he's going to order them he's heard great things about the results and mom will be able to get them there.
I should ride more but I'm not an early riser and most of the shifts I work are 1-10 and I just want to sleep work sleep work and my two days off there is always so much to do.

You know John Lyons turned his ranch into a hemp farm? They are growing plants inside the indoor arenas. You can order the CBD oil online but it is really expensive. At least you know where it came from unlike most brands. Most of the CBD oil comes from hemp grown in other countries due to the laws against growing hemp. We have a few hemp farms in our area. One has a big sign on the fence saying “hemp farm No THC” so people don’t try sneaking in and stealing plants. The CBD works better if it’s combined with THC but not all states allow it. 1:1 is a common ratio but it can vary depending on just what you are treating. Well DH talked with a realtor in Lander and found out they had smoke all summer too. So much for finding clear air. No need to move if it’s going to be smokey there too. Our dogs are on Taste of the Wild “Pacific Streams” salmon formula. It’s also grain free. When Oscar the pug had itching the vet wanted us to switch him to something with a “unique protein” , which would be anything other than beef, pork, chicken, or lamb. His itching stopped and Henry’s tummy trouble cleared up. Sometimes I will switch to another flavor as all of their feed is grain free and the meats are game meat like elk, deer, or buffalo. They really like the salmon but then they smell like cats. They make treats too with the same ingredients.

I've got all my dogs on Zignature Salmon flavor. It's not listed as grain free-but limited ingredient. I've been reading that grain free can cause health issues in some dogs. I haven't noticed my dogs smelling like cats though I also put a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil on the Doberman's food. Allergies for animals & humans is a problem here.

Yeah theres a good sized fire outside Pinedale it's causing smoky skies in Green River too. Also a fire in Utah bringing in fire from the other direction. Lots of fires this year. But it's rare in Lander so take that into consideration. Another nice town in Wy is Cody or Sheridan.
I've seen something about the no grain causing dogs to have heart trouble. Diesel hasn't had any problems he saw the vet not long ago and he's been on this for about 3 yrs. He does get fishy breath but it only lasts 10 min or so. I give Diesel tuna oil or the burger grease but mostly he gets the salmon oil with the vitamins on his dog food, extra fishy smell!! At one of the stores here I got water bison formula and one that was kangaroo. REALLY expensive!
I'm on vacation and went to WM to get all the things I need in the am for painting my room blue. I went with a medium blue called Blue jay blue. I'll let you know how I like it but right now it's adobe brick. Going to be a big change. I've moved most everything out of the room and my voice echo's in here. lol
I'll have to look on JL's site for the CBD oil, we have a big health food store here called Mama jeans. Mom and I are going to lunch in Springfield Thurs and she's going to pick up some more there. Dr Porter hasn't gotten in his yet.

My supervisor at Price Chopper has be pissed off big time! I've been only working Sat/Sun's because they were offering OT at the IRS so I've been working there on Friday's. With the continuing resolution that we're currently in she know's I not working the OT so she asked if I could work Friday's from now on. I told her no, not yet, while working the OT I put aside all my animal's vet visits, several tests my dr wanted me to have, I have 2 home repairs that must be done before winter & I have to get my car winterized. She said, ok & told me to tell her when I could work them & I told her ok.
Went to work yesterday & saw the new schedule; she now has me working Fri, Sat & Sunday's from now on! Then I find out she went on vacation, can't bring this up to her for another 2 weeks! I would so quit if the federal govt. had an actual budget!
Did at least get the horses their fall shots & my 2 new kittens spayed & shots on the 1 Friday I had off.
