V, what a crappy thing for the supervisor to do! Sorry you have to put up with a person like that.

I would bring it up to her supervisor and tell them you don’t understand the schedule since you told her you were NOT available on Fridays. Since you can’t really predict when you will need to be working at the IRS on Fridays you can’t really accept shifts on those days until they are caught up on everything since that is your first job and they know that.

Supervisor knows I'm upset about working Friday, she was there but had the shift supervisor come ask me if I would work this next Friday; explain no, can't, I have to winterize my cars, my home, I have home repairs that must be done & that means I need 1 weekday a week for the next few weeks off so I can do it. Families just don't get it, they have a wife or husband that can be at home to do this, I have to do it by myself! At least I have this next Friday off, hope it lasts until at least the end of this year.
It's cold here, no using the heat yet so it is 55 in the house. Good sleeping, but hands get cold typing!

I noticed just today the leaves are turning finally. This summer weather has lasted into October and spoiled us. I got everything done except the sheath cleanings so will now have to hope the weather gives us one more nice day into the 70's!! At WM you have your available hours for every day of the week and no one can schedule you those unacceptable days unless they ask and you agree and it's every time they need you. Do you have a set amount of days you can call in? We have 8, ninth and you're done.
I took some drawings of the horses (framed) to the art and craft benefit auction for CMN, and one sawblade painting of a couple wolves. Found out my Store manager has a daughter who's into horses. He bought her the drawing of the horse with the eagle flying above it. Offered today to let her come out with our personnel director's daughter to ride Boomer and Buddy in the RP as soon as Olivia feels better. She had chemo mid sept. They were in Tenn at the St Judes. He said he'd LOVE to have her come out. And the two girls would give each other courage since his daughter got scared on a trail ride a few months ago. It was one of those head to tail rides and he things going up hill scared her.
I have a question about horse behavior... So I have been making Rain back up about 4-6 steps before I pour his grain into his bucket. He's always hyper and acts like he's starving. So I started feeding Boomer first and have their hang over buckets far apart. Boomer eats slower and needs a head start. Then I do Rain because if I do Buddy Rain just becomes naughty and enters the RP where I have the other two horses buckets. Buddy always waits patiently for his turn. So the question is this...Rain gets impatient when I do Buddy before him and will bite the top of the 2x4 fence between the corral (him) and the RP (the other two) and he takes big bites although he usually only gets a bit of wood. Do you thing this will lead to Cribbing?? he only does it when he's impatient at dinner time. I would like to feed him last because he's faster and naughtier when his plate is empty.

I wouldn't think it would lead to cribbing - it just sounds like rude behavior. The JL trainer I boarded with several years ago got so she would feed Risty last since he pitched such a fit about not getting his first. He finally learned to calm down & wait patiently for his food once he knew he would get it if he behaved.

For years now Whitey has run her teeth back and forth along the panel between her and Winnie at dinner time. She also pins her ears back at her while she does it. She has also never cribbed so it is just a show for Winnie who will sometimes snake her head around and show her teeth back at her. Winnie doesn’t crib but will bite at the hitching post when she’s being saddled. I think it’s just to show their displeasure at the situation. I’m thinking of covering the hitching post with some kind of plastic pipe so she stops tearing it up.

Internet was so slow last night this site wouldn't allow me to log in! URGH I was thinking about painting the fence where he eats with something yucky, I can't use the soap/cayenne though because I learned the hard way that the soap dries and the wind blows the cayenne into your eye. Today I kept an eye on him as I scooped the grain to feed them all, and only had to say AUGHT twice but he stopped. I think he may have figured he was already in enough trouble. Our ride did not go well. There was something in the pile of brush, I think it was deer. I could see movement but they were huckered down. Youth season was Sat and Sun. He didn't want to go past it and threw his head a few times. I smacked him in the neck and told him Knock it off! Then we went down another trail that leads to the front of the property and he kept swinging his head and wanting to go back. I got pissed though when he bucked on me not just once but twice. He got to run and buck while I free lunged him in the RP which I increased in size so now I get just as much exersize. He's going to get to work in the RP more the next few wks.
Maybe you could paint the hitching post with something yucky too? Wonder what tastes gross to horses?

I had a lot of trouble with the horses eating the barn and tried everything I could find. Bitter Yuck, cayenne and vinegar, Irish Spring soap, nothing worked. We finally had to line the walls with the metal panels. Sage actually seemed to enjoy the cayenne 😅. I have sprayed the Bitter Yuck on the rail of the hitching post but Winnie only uses her teeth, no lips or tongue touching the wood. She is complaining about having her cinch tightened although it’s snugged up gently and smoothly. She never tries to bite us, just the rail. Whitey doesn’t bite the rail but turns her head and looks at me and bumps my arm. She’s much better than before and I think having a saddle that fits so well helps. The sweat pattern under the pad is almost perfect and I changed the cinch to one that is fleece even along the edges so it doesn’t rub her armpits. I switched her to a full cheek snaffle and shortened up her bridle a bit to add another wrinkle in her lips and I think this fits her mouth better. She seems more comfortable and relaxed with it. I took her walking in the pasture and as long as we were in the back she was fine but when we were headed towards the front where the gate to the road is she tried to grab my elbow several times. She didn’t bite hard but I felt like she was testing me to see if I would hit her face. I would just tell her we don’t do that and then rub her face. She still has some issues and I think she was treated poorly and had her face struck and is checking to see if that will happen again. She may have thought we were going to leave the property for a walk or ride without Winnie. Although her confidence is improving she isn’t up to completely solo work yet. DH is concerned that Sage farts too much 😂. I have to admit I haven’t heard a horse fart as much as she does but isn’t it a good thing? Great bowel sounds, don’t even need a stethoscope to hear them. I think I’d be more worried if she didn’t fart. He wants to know if it’s normal.
