My dog would rather get a "spanking" than stop chasing and barking at my horses. UGH how many s-PAIN-kings will it take??? Sometimes they will chase him and try to get him with their front hooves. Still it doesn't stop him.
He stands by their hang over buckets and gobble any grain that spills from their mouth.
He will jump up and get bites of hay when I'm trying to pitch hay into their trough. AND EAT IT.
So two weeks ago my Colorado saddle was sitting on a short bar stool in the storage room next to my bedroom. I was on the computer and heard it hit the floor and the dog came running in looking guilty. Figuring he probably was sniffing around and knocked it off I didn't think anything more of it. But I did bring it in my room and put it on the saddle stand. Buddy's gotten "fluffy" so I'm using the Tucker right now.
I walked past my saddle today and am thinking "what the heck?" My stirrup is rawhide wrapped and the top has been chewed off. Well NOW I know why it fell off the stool, and I'm NOT happy!!! URGH
Oh yeah this was a FREE dog my son brought home a year ago before moving out. LOL

Just one thing to say: E-Collar. If it doesn't work on the dog, use it on your son!

Mom says to send the bill to Matt. YEAH RIGHT! Colorado Saddlery emailed me back with the stirrup # and I have to buy the pair but he can oil the wrap under boot and lace so it is the chestnut color that matches my saddle. Well guess now I'll have an extra.

Send the dog to my house for a few days. The horses will quickly teach him that chasing them isn't as fun when they chase him back! My poor dog got rolled end over end trying to play with my gelding. He's lucky he's still able to walk!

Diesel was kicked about 4 months ago as he was barking and chasing them through a gate. Lucky him it just grazed his cheek. I've been getting after him every time he goes under the panels to bark at them. He seems to think though when I yell AUGHT to Buddy (likes to help Boomer eat his grain) that I need help correcting the horse. LOL
Maybe it'll take an end to end roll?

Maybe it'll take an end to end roll? My corgie/terrier cross still chases the horses, even after cracked ribs, a broken pelvis, broken toes, and numerous near misses. I guess some don't ever learn.

We live in between two large Amish families, and one of the older married sons across the road too. There are many amish in the neighborhood. So we have horses and buggies going back and forth all the time especially on Sundays when the whole sect gathers for church. I've trained him not to chase their horses and buggies but it's like he thinks he's my personal 2nd hand man/dog keeping my horses in line for me. LOL He takes his job seriously too.
My stirrups ended up costing me almost $90, can't just order one thing you know!

I use an electric shock collar. Dogs learn at different rates. It only took ONE real shock to break the Brittany's from chasing deer.
The Queensland heeler,,,,,,,,we're still working on........LOL!!

I bought an electric collar on Amazon. Was a waste of my money, should have bought a better one. The problem with this one is that it's motion activated which means the batteries run dead unless you put it on, take them out then take it back off when you come in. Don't think it works very good either since the one time I did use it on Diesel ( about 6 months ago when he was around 8 months old) he was right on the new chickens butt and wasn't letting that shock collar stop him one iota, the spanking lasted longer though, now the new chicken follows him all over and talks to him non-stop.
I'm SOOO disappointed, got my stirrups yesterday. They are cheaply made, not like the ones that came with my saddle. The guy did NOT oil them to match and they used narrow lacing, the rawhide isn't even covering the underneath part and the fancy bottom piece is no longer made on them. I emailed them back and asked if anyone there is still making QUALITY stirrups? sent in the new vs old stirrup pics, the email where he said mine were XXX and he could oil them to match and am waiting for a reply on whether I will return or exchange. Did I mention how DISAPPOINTED I am?

My b/o one ordered a shock collar for one of her dogs -- the blue heeler, I think. Anyway, the UPS guy left the package on the porch, which is standard operating procedure in our area, and the dog chewed up the box and the collar before the b/o ever got to it.

Smart dog, he could smell trouble coming. LOL
Gotta say Co Saddlery emailed with pics of the ones they are sending me to replace these and they said to regift the others to someone who can use them. I'll give them to the girls ranch here. Don't know what happened but they handled the issue like pro's. I love my Colorado saddle and am glad they could replace Diesels boo-boo.
Not sure how I'll keep him from making a lunch out of my new stirrups? I don't have a place that keeps him out of my tack inside and I'm afraid the mice may chew the fleece in the tack shed? What do you all do with your saddles in the winter? In WY I always kept mine in the horse trailer (walk in) but here I noticed that the humidity puts some nasty moldy looking stuff on the leather fenders when it's been out there too long.
