I buy my grain at the Amish store it's Kent feeds. They sell the feed for the company and receive a percentage of profits. I was hesitant because I'd never heard of Kent feeds but I was not happy with MFA or C&C's feed brands, they all seemed OLD and dried out. Kent smells good and it's not chunky or dried out and the horses like it. That being said, they get a quart of grain per day for a treat and because I can put their supplements in it and they eat it up. It's also a good way to train them to come into the corral when I get home at night so they can be locked in. If I were going to feed a complete I'd feed Equine Sr because my old vet and my friend the vet tech both use it and recommend it.

It seemed like some of the "testamonials" on the website were engineered. It also sounded too good to be true. That's why I was asking about it.

I like the Purina brand feeds and they've been in business forever I just wonder why they'd have to make anything up or lead anyone to believe any of their products are more than they are. I wonder if whoever this guy on your board is might not be as knowledge-able as he thinks and can't answer your questions.

Thrive isn't a purina feed. It also has the bare minimum written on it to be legal to sell to consumers.

Kent's is a fairly big company. I think they own three companies now. Blue Seal here in New England is one of their brands. My b/o has been feeding BS forever, it seems, and never has had problems. It is always high quality and fresh. I expect that the products in the Kent group are similar, but formulated for the area of the country.

I checked and Kent is not available locally. I am in the blending process to change the mare over to Strategy. I decided to go with if it a'int broke, don't fix it. Barney has done well on Strategy for years and I hope the mare will too.

From the Thrive site: "For rescue horses just feed free choice as much as they will eat. They will self-regulate as they recover from starvation."
OMG - that just doesn't sound right at ALL!?!
And regarding the feed tag info: "A guaranteed analysis is printed on every bag because it is required by law. Personally I don’t care for the information much as it does nothing to indicate what the results of feeding the product are going to be. I want you to make a purchasing decision based on results other horse owners are experiencing, not by comparing the feed tag to tags on normal horse feed. I know some folks will get all bent out of shape as they have in the past, but what do you really want, wonderful healthy horses, or what you think the protein and fat etc should be on the feed tag. I prefer the results myself and so do all my feed clients, that’s why the analysis in not on the website."
So he wants you to just take it on faith that all horses will respond to the feed in the same way? WTH?!

Oh and also arrogant much:
"What size bag does Thrive come in?
The sack holds 40 pounds. The high digestibility ensures the contents equal or exceed the nutritional value of a normal 50 pound sack. The big benefit is the 10 pound lighter sack is so much easier for ladies to move around, and a lot of ladies have horses."
I'm sorry but with these kind of comments on the website, I would be VERY hesitant to try this Thrive feed without recommendations from lots of people that I KNOW and preferably at least 1 vet.

Is this a locally owned and bagged company? My horses would not stop eating when full, not till they were in dire straights and foundering.

Sorry I kinda dropped this thread and didn't respond. I've ruled out Thrive like ya'll. I didn't mean to ignore anybody. My husband's cancer is back and between taking care of him and trying to do everything on the place by myself and work, I haven't had much time to read the board.
