Kirk, That’s interesting about the eyes. I can see that Risty is the wary type. With him it might also have something to do with being a stud for his first 6 years and “looking after his herd”. When we did the Julie Goodnight episode she looked at his swirl and told me he is emotional with a more active mind than a lot of horses. After knowing him for all these years I can vouch for that! Cyndi, I’ve got Linda’s book & love going through it and “testing” her comments with Risty. She is right on with him!

Thanks for the offer Cyndi, that book by Linda Tellington-Jones sounds very interesting. Doubt my library has it but since you vouched for it, I'll see if I can find a copy. Don't have a lot of close-ups of Valeroso's head but will take some and see what you think. Thanks for the offer

LMM, it's fun to 'assess' horses by using that book, isn't it? Reading that book has been part of my horse journey, and I don't regret at all that I found out about it right when I needed to My pleasure, K I got to know an older gentleman through another forum once, who owned a mustang. He wasn't able to ride his horse (due to his age and heart issues), but loved spending time on the ground with him. He sent me photos of his horse and we had a good time discussing whether or not my assessment was accurate. I haven't heard from him for a long time, and I fear that he's no longer alive In the past he'd been absent for a while, then he emailed to say that he'd had some heart surgery, so I'm guessing that even if he's still alive, he's not in the best health. I often think about him, and I wonder what became of his lovely gelding, Gitano. Sorry to go off on a bunny trail here!! lol Just wanted to say that I'm happy to do this for you or anyone else in here who'd like me to. Perhaps LMM and I could do an assessment and see if we come up with the same thing. lol There are SO many details to consider, like shape and size of the nostrils, etc., it would be easy to get two different opinions. It's just a whole lot of fun for me

Great photos! Those work well for conformation info, but close-ups work best for the other stuff. No rush, take them when you can. These kinds of photos work well...except make sure he's relaxed and his ears are not plastered back like Fanny's front view. lol I thought I had a better one of her from the front. If it's possible, keep the forelock off the forehead, so you can see his swirl.

Hi Cyndi, I have a few more photos of Valeroso. The snow isn't done with us yet so poor guy is a little wet. Hopefully this is what you need?

Two more photos of Valeroso, it'll be interesting to see what you come up with for personality.

The photos look good, Kirk!! He looks nice and relaxed (ears are straight on, etc.). I "can't" go to the barn today or tomorrow, so I will try to get an assessment done I might break it up into smaller chunks, otherwise it'll be the world's longest post!! LOL Heading off to take my elderly friend grocery shopping! Talk to you all soon
