GR, wow, it sounds like Marty is a good person to NOT have around! I hope the damage he caused isn't too bad. My daughter's back yard is fenced, but we have already had a problem twice with her Doberman being outside at the same time as my 2 dogs. She gets pretty serious about chasing them, tackling and biting. Nothing serious yet, but she doesn't listen when my daughter tries to call her off & get her back in the house. We just have to make sure they aren't outside at the same time. They get along tolerably well inside, it just seems to be when they are out & have room for her to chase them. The offer on my house that I accepted has an estimated closing date of 8/27. I have some items the buyer wants repaired based on the home inspection. Hoping it closes on time. My realtor is working on getting the repairs lined up. Kind of hard to arrange since I'm so far away. I was going to clean out my car today, but it's raining so I guess that is out! Checking out some houses on Zillow. Have any of you ever looked at anything that is listed as "pre-foreclosure"? Not sure what that means as far as looking at the property. They only have exterior pictures so I'm guessing the inside is either a mess or they don't actually have access to the house yet to get inside pictures. Later: googled it & got quite a bit of information. Back to looking at houses (cheap) listed as For Sale

Have you thought about getting a pre-approval and hitting some auctions? you can get some great deals. How big is the town you"re in? Are you wanting to stay there or just close by like next town? I'm surprised your dobby isn't getting along with her dobby. LOL
Yeah Marty messed a lot of things up. I asked Anthony if he'd come out today and have a look at fixing the Kubota. The wheel in front was bent and SF couldn't find a way of getting the 4 washer things off to get the pin on top of the wheel off. Anthony used the dremel and ground off the top of the pin here it was mushroomed then figured out how to fix the deck so it would go up and down. Now Jim just has to buy the pin thing the wheel is on and the four washers and it'll go right back on.
It was mid 90's here so not much out door stuff going on. Going to go to town with mom tomorrow and get some things. I need 20' of chicken wire to finish the baby chicks yard. They are getting too big to be in the office in the plastic box. I can't wait to turn them loose in the new yard and watch them get some exercise.

Does anyone know what is up with guys that bring their wife/kid/dogs with them when they come to work around your property? We hired a young man to come out and move some hay and firewood for us. He had some trouble with his truck and called to let us know he would be late. We offered to pick him up and ended up meeting him at the local store when his truck got going and they went to get gas. We offered to drive him again but he said his wife wanted to come along. I thought maybe she wanted to find out where to pick him up and didn’t think too much about it. Their young son (about 9) was with them. We took the guy out to the hay barn and wife and kid wanted to come too. Wife is wearing flip-flops and the son barefoot. I pointed out that their footwear wasn’t really suitable for the pasture but she said she wore them cutting firewood in the woods. He did the hay really quick and we went back to start on the wood. When we moved in we ordered a couple cords of firewood and they didn’t stack it, just threw it in the woodshed. We didn’t use any of the wood last winter and decided we would move the wood out and cover it and then we could use the shed for our outdoor equipment and kayaks. The wood went slowly and all 3 worked on it. They had to stop so I could spray some wasp nests they found. We weren’t very happy with the footwear of the wife and son and the work slowed way down on the wood with more people working. They got about half done and said they found a bee/wasp/stinging things nest but we were out of wasp spray. We paid them and said we’d let them know if we needed them to finish the next day. We won’t be needing them. The nest was actually like a mouse or squirrel nest, not bee. I think we could finish quicker than they could. It never seems to turn out well when they bring family along. The last guy in Oregon brought his wife and dogs. The dogs ran all over and we couldn’t let ours outside, even in their fenced yard because his could jump the fence and none of them were neutered and they were pit bull mixes. Another worker had his brother stopping by or his wife. Why do workers feel it’s okay to just bring extras with them? We certainly aren’t paying for the second person. I had hoped we had found someone to do some jobs for us but we are not going to have the group thing going. I understand they didn’t want to stay at home. They are living in a camper at her uncle’s and every time he gets mad about something he’ll cut off her power. Her mom and mom’s significant other live there in another camper. Wife got a small generator to be sure they would have power all the time and it did run. She loaned it to mom’s SO and now it won’t start. No, I probably wouldn’t want to stay there either but you don’t tag along with hubby to work. He just got a job installing fiber optic cable and I wonder if she’ll tag along there too. What is wrong with people?

GR, right now I'm in Omaha-on the western edge. I'm not sure if I want to be in a small town outside the city or stay within Omaha or it's suburbs. If I'm thinking about a PT job I should be in the city & just not sure with the house prices that I can afford to get by on just my retirement. I want to get pre-qualified, just waiting until my house in Tucson closes so that debt isn't showing up on my credit report. Omaha is around 460,000 population. Just a little smaller than Tucson. There are some rural towns outside Omaha that would qualify for a USDA loan, just not a lot of houses for sale but I'm looking every day. When I was doing HR for a company in Phoenix I interviewed a lady who brought her husband with her to the interview & was upset when we told her he would have to wait in the lobby. I just don't get some people!

The first time I put an ad on the swap shop and listed I wanted trees cut in exchange for them taking the wood for firewood or lumber a guy calling himself woodduck came out with his dad, seemed to be a good pair and had experience cutting in the area. Then when they did show up his dad and his teen son came a couple times then the trouble started when he came with three other little ones maybe five to diaper age. They left garbage everywhere from coffee cups to diapers to lunchable wrappers and even flip flops. I told him don't come back. I didn't want someone getting hurt and suing me let alone a huge insurance claim on mom and Jims insurance. You can't keep an eye on three kids while sawing trees and if one fell on a child..
I'm on vacation for two wks. Finished the chicken yard and the babies got moved in. Jim said today they didn't want to go in, they are enjoying their yard. I put a temp fence down the middle so they can be caught easily, once they learn to go in at night they'll have a larger enclosure. It's probably 15x40 total. When Matt showed up with Diesel I told him he could only stay if he put up a kennel so if I was at work we had somewhere to put him. But he was housebroke at 5wks and we never had to use the kennel. We put the ducks in it when we had them and now it's chicks. They plan on getting more chicks in the spring but I think we'll have enough hens sitting on their eggs by then. We have 16-17 hens and one rooster now. Well IF the chicks are hens.
I'd go nuts in a city that big. My sister goes crazy when she comes here though she said its too quiet. Mom goes crazy once in a while with nothing to do here. She likes the country but needs friend time. She grew up with 7 siblings and lots of din. I on the other hand have enough crafts and animals if I never saw a human I'd be just fine. I've always been that way. I don't even like to go to Wmart on my days off.

I rode down to the neighbors farm, they had either a goat or sheep baaa-ing in the back and the kids were playing on the fence by them. Lots of movement and noise. Rain froze up and refused to go by. It wasn't that he was scared but curious and at one point tried to go up their drive way. But after circling and backing and trying to push him forward he still wouldn't go. So I called it a day and turned in time to see Irvin in the buggy and they were coming at a fast trot. Rain has yet to be close to the buggies so it was good to see what he'd do, which was nothing except try and greet the horse. He's a goof ball and totally different than any other horse I've had. My other horses would have run past acting like the goat was gonna get em!
My dad's truck is broke down, tranny is out and it isn't worth fixing, too many miles and it's burning oil too. So I've ordered a receiver hitch to be installed beginning of the week so he can pull his trailer with my truck. He mows the church every week. And he'll have to share mom's car with her for the other things but looks like no more running the amish all over. He got his mower back and Marty had done major damage to the blade and something else, over $300 to fix it now we just have to wait on the amish to finish the tractor and everything will be working again. The DR Trimmer can wait. I've been on vacation since Aug 2nd, kinda getting bored. I go back on Tues the 18th. My boss called to see if I could move my schedule around for the first two weeks I go back. More day shifts. YES"""

GR, I think Risty would have been down the road with either the goat or the buggy. One time I rode him past a neighbor with a llama & he wanted nothing to do with that place. Funny thing is, a few years after that I ended up renting a casita at that property. The llama was gone & Risty was in the space where the llama had been. My daughter, niece & I are going looking at some areas to concentrate on in my house search. Kind of a girls road trip day. Then we are going to go about an hour west of here & visit my parent's, grandparents, aunts & uncles graves. My niece has never been to see her grandparents graves. I sure wish I would have had Ryan moved there from NE South Dakota, I own 2 plots next to my parents. Oh well, he's not really there anyway & I know I'll see them all again someday. My house in Tucson is scheduled to close on 8/27. I can't wait to be all done with it. I just have a feeling with the way things are going that the housing market is going to come down again. I've come up with a new term for me "bortired" I like being retired, but am BORED. I feel like my mind is wasting away with my accounting duties & Excel spreadsheets. I'm going to have to learn soduko puzzles or something. My cell phone is failing (after only 3 years). I think I'll be replacing it soon. My daughter & SIL are big iphone fans so I can see where that might lead, even though I've been a Samsung fan for several years.

Sometimes I wish I had a plot for mine, somewhere to go to feel closer? even though I know they are not there I guess it's the human in us. That's great that you are all going to see where your family is. Mine is in PA or OH. At least most of them, my dad was cremated and not sure where his GF scattered his ashes.
I'm bored too and I'm just on vacation. I took way too much time off. LOL Only thing I have left to do is give my horse trailer a good washing. The outside is getting green algae. This humidity is aweful here. It is great to have everything done before fall hits.
I know there are two big holes in his training and I've just been too bored to work on them. The first is I need to get him softer on yields and the second is he is AWEFUL at being led sometimes when he's not listening to me but to the horses at the fence or the goat/sheep baa-ing. If I had him good on the ground he would pay attention to me not to the surrounding. Even going down the road he is forever looking everywhere except where he's stepping. Going to do more RP work or riding in the pasture and working on those holes.
What's a casita? Buddy and Boomer had no problem with our neighbors llamas. They had two or three in the corrals in WY and we'd go pet them when we rode. And our amish neighbors sheep have been eating grass in our back yard for a week, they just fixed the fence today. LOL So no problem with the sheep here. Makes me think it may have been a goat at Irvins?

BTW I'm trying to find hobbies mom can do, there's a lot if you google hobbies for women over 50, mom only having the muscles in her right hand though make the search a bit harder like she can't crotchet or knit...

GR, a casita is just a little guest house. The one I lived in had the LR & kitchenette all in one long room and then the sleeping area was like the short end of an "L", not a separate room, with a small BA at the end. I had 90% of my things in storage then. Have you tried carrying a dressage whip when walking him? When Risty was young I used one a lot. Just to tap his feet to ask him to back up. We also did a lot of hips & shoulders over with just a tap of the dressage whip if he was busy looking at things he got put to work moving one or more parts of his body. What did John Lyons call a dressage whip? Was it an extension of your arm? Seems like I heard that somewhere. If he was really misbehaving all I had to do was slap the whip on the ground in front of him to get his attention. I guess we aren't doing a road trip today. My niece isn't feeling well after eating at Taco "Hell" last night & 2 of my daughter's dogs are sick from the flea/tick prevention pills they got yesterday. I don't think it would be fair to leave my SIL alone all day with sick dogs. Oh well, there's always next weekend! Only 10 more days & my house sale in Tucson will be final! It really hasn't taken long but I will be glad when it is finished & I have the equity money in hand to put down on a place here & pay off my car. I should check on the tax laws & see if I would be penalized if I rented for a while instead of buying. I'll check on google for hobbies. I don't knit or crochet either. I used to knit & sew, but my arthritis and eyes have gotten so bad it is just too much strain. That's part of the reason I want a small house with a yard. I want a garden next year and really don't mind doing yard work (except maybe shoveling snow). Guess I can always hire it done or get a snow blower. I had one when I lived in South Dakota & loved using it!

Sorry about the dogs and humans. I would love to pay off my car, I just paid off my phone Aug 1st, My car is the only other bill I have other than the house rent which isn't much. I met a breeder of german shorthairs that told me NEVER give an animal feed through tick/flee prevention because it's a poison that has to go through the dog to kill the flee/tick. He had one dog went blind and another started to have life or death problems and when he started researching it he said he'll never use the feed through like revolution. I kept D on Frontline. He also gets heart worm. I'll have to dig out the riding crop I'm sure just getting out there will change his attitude but like today...I washed the algae off the horse trailer and that took 5.5 hours. LOL I put the 4' trough upside down in my one ton and used a mop to get the roof, there's a lot of scrubbing when your trailer is 24' long. I have one more day off before I go back to work. It'll feel more like vacation that what I've been doing. LOL

I don't remember the name of the feed through they used, it's something they only have to give every 3 (or maybe 6) months. My dogs are now on Heartgard for heart worms. Never had to use it in AZ They are on NexGard for fleas & ticks. They are feed throughs are every month. I got 6 months for each dog of the Heartgard but on 3 months of the Nexgard. Only have 1 month left of the Nexgard & then I think I'm going to switch to Frontline spot treatment. I've about decided I'm not going to be able to find a house I can afford with everything I want-no surprise there! I'm really surprised that so many houses in small towns around here don't have basements. I've always thought they were fairly common with the tornado threats, but maybe not. Anyway if I can get a decent kitchen, a garage (either attached or detached) and a fenced yard for the dogs it will be good.Depending on the price of the property I would even consider no fenced yard & just pay for it myself. Too many decisions! Has anyone heard from Vicki lately? I hope she's doing ok after having Bear put down.

When did she have Bear put down? I hadn't heard. I know how hard losing a horse is, especially one you've had for so long. Is she still leasing out her mare Marie?
I would think selling your house would be quick but buying maybe a bit harder. If I were retired I'd get the heck out of the big cities right now. My family in Toledo is experiencing a lot of violence right now, shootings robbery etc.. They were told to lock down the other night. This is why my dad took us out of Ohio when we were kids, too big, too much crime.
My hand really hurt last night and today, too much scrubbing and it still isn't healed from Rain's jumping sideways and me spraining my wrist from fingers to mid way up my arm. I go back to work tomorrow so no more mid afternoon naps. Guess I'd better stop staying up till 3 am. I am pleased with everything I got done though.

GR, I think she had Bear put down within the last month or so. I used to follow her & another former JL board member on FB but had to unfriend them for too many personal attacks, negativity, and vulgar language (vulgarity wasn't from V). I think I will like small town living again. Just want to be close to good grocery stores & Costco. haha Not sure what is available in some of the areas for any type of delivery service, instacart, etc. Thank goodness for Amazon! Hope your hand and wrist is feeling better.

Yeah I had to also, just too depressing to be pulled into the political thing repeatedly. I hope she's doing well though. I think if they deliver to Jeffrey City Wy they deliver to anywhere in the world! LOL I could not do city living again. I don't even want our road paved!!! mom and I disagree there. My wrist is just so dang stiff along the outer bone from about the heal to the 5th metacarpal and when I over use it... don't know how long it's going to take to be back to normal. I take the truck in to Jack for the hitch installment in the morning so I HAD to wash the filthy thing first. I washed it out back and Rain was kicking at my wire fence trying to get my attention. I kept yelling at him to quit and he'd wait till I turned around and kick it again so I asked him what he wanted...he whinnied at me and then paced back and forth. I got to thinking maybe he had his foot stuck? nope the minute I started over he went to the gate and started push/pulling it and jiggling the chain. I cleaned the corral and emptied the warm water and replaced it with cold fresh water, gave them grain and sprayed them with bug spray. Boomer tried to side swipe me because a huge fly was biting him. He knows I will kill it for him. He has a longer tail than rain, his touches the ground but yet he can't get them when they are on his upper butt. Old age?
